Sage, I just wanted to thank you for all of the videos and training talks this year. I found your channel at the beginning of the year to help me train for Boston (was able to PR that race with 2:52), but I could have done better considering the terrible weather. Last week, I was able to run the Philly marathon in 2:35 and I want you to know that your training talks really helped me a lot to be able to achieve something that I thought I would never be able to do! Thanks again and I hope you have a great holiday!

Your music makes me smile Sage.... keep it coming. Another great video. Always find your videos full of great advice and really helpful. You have inspired me to start my own running vlogs. You even get a mention in my Vlog No. 1. Keep up the good work. Best wishes Peter

You're right about the pressure to race year round. It's tempting when you're in great shape to push harder and harder.

You touched briefly on how much fitness you -as an elite runner - lose after two weeks off . I'm very interested in how much elite runners lose during periodisation , it seems very little is written or talked about in terms of how much slower or faster elites get during any one year of training . I would love to see a graph showing the extent of the peaks and troughs during a typical elite marathon runners training . I'm only a recreational runner , but on a relative basis this data would help know if i'm letting my fitness drop too low during any point in the year , and as a result, throwing away my chances of longer term progress. I always really enjoy your musical intro's by the way :-)

It’s been a great year following you Sir thank you as always. This is timely I badly sprained my ankle two months ago and it was tough to train for my yearly 50k. Night before the race I broke my middle toe on the other foot...still ran the race out in the snow here in Canada. Just gutted it out lol, time for a rest. Thank you for the persistent positive attitude you help me achieve.

Totally agree about resting, i've just come off the back of 4 weeks lower mileage due to injuries and just chilling out and now I feel 100% better for it!

Damn this video literally couldn't have dropped at a better time for me, I just finished my last race of the year and am suffering from plantar fasciitis so I'll be taking a break for a little bit. Thanks so much for the tips Sage

Such good advice! I think it's hard for us runners to dial it back sometimes because we are in our own head all the time. But it's good to just get out and explore.

Really great advice and tips, important ones us runners like to skip over and try keep burning hot all year long. I took 2 weeks off activity after the Amsterdam Marathon, ate a bunch of crappy (vegan) food to both physically and mentally relax and feel better for it. I knew the music intro and acting was a sign you're not running as much 😀

Good points. My 2018 goal was to break 4 hours in the marathon and I started training on New Year’s Day. Ran a Mother’s Day marathon and missed by 18 seconds. Took 2-3 weeks of easy recovery running then ran another marathon in late July, where I came in at 3:56:55. Since then it’s been pretty much just maintaining fitness and running a couple shorter races for fun. I’ll start out in the new year again to prepare for spring half marathons. Probably not going to do any marathons in 2019 as I’m going to focus more on speed and strength.

Sage, this maybe a bit off topic but I would love your input on this. Since I'm part of the armed forces, there is a lot of sleepless nights, by that I mean I get to sleep 5 hours average. This means that I do not have that much time to recover from hard runs. Just in case you need to know my training consist of Tempo runs, Sprints, and LSD since we are tested mostly on speed. Do you think it is ok for me to run everyday under this condition? (I'm aware you're not a physician. I just want your input it would be greatly appriciated). Me: 6,5 240lbs (I'm cutting to 205)

Hi Sage. I know you are vegan and would not use collagen peptides as part of your nutrition, but what are your thoughts on supplements like that? Is it a fad or is there some truth behind it? Dealing with some ongoing achilles/calf trouble and looking for anything that may help in any way. Taking about 2 weeks off now after just getting going again and not too happy about it.
@ritualcities5 жыл бұрын
i've had great experience with collagen for joint health. i've rolled my ankles several times over the summer and the recovery time was drastically reduced. in the past a rolled ankle would set me back for at least a week. now, 2 days max if its relatively intensely rolled (knock on wood).

Hey bro i have a question. I mostly train for 10k and 21k but idk if it's good to do hill sessions, i mean i only do them to gain strength and in short tracks, is it ok or it's useless?

Hi Sage, what are your thoughts on running rim-to-rim-to-rim on dec 15? Are there any issues like trail closures? I know the taps will be off too. Do you think I can manage filtering water from sources?
@Vo2maxProductions5 жыл бұрын
it could be very very cold on the rims....and there could be too much snow. I'd check the park website for updates.. it could be very risky to do in the winter as they could shut off water everywhere and it might get closed on the north rim (I don't know though).
