Trunks time travel is a very early very imperfect version of it, which is why it caused a branch in the timeline instead of altering it completely. The time travel Mira and Towa use is much closer to the way a time ring might work. Their method if left unchecked CAN actually cause permanent changes. Also it doesn’t help that they use the time travel specifically to empower themselves to cause havoc later on
