Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small (or more if you can afford it) donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. You can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here right now and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Or, if you prefer "Cash App" you can use: cash.me/$Lifeprint Or use Patreon at www.patreon.com/ASLU Every little bit helps so much! Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

I don't have any of your donation connections. Is there an address I can send a check too? I am not yet deaf, but HH and loosing more each year. I have just started ASL lessons about 10 weeks ago Your videos help me a great deal. I learn a lot of new words and get lots of experience reading fingerspell, that is the hardest thing for me to get in class! Thank you for all your hard work and for helping so many people. An approach to donating via a check (if you have a smart phone and a paper check book) is to go here: www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-layout/contact.htm and scroll down and find my AOL address. Then fill out the check to William Vicars and take a picture of the front and back of the check using a fairly high resolution setting (it helps to set the check in the sunlight before taking a picture. Then email me the picture of the check -- which I can then deposit electronically. That saves money on stamps and stationery (and is actually faster than using the mail system). Or when you email me just request a mailing address and remind me that you are the person who asked (in a KZbin comment) about donating. Thank you in advance!

@31:10 haha. i paused the video and searched for about 5-10 minutes just before the discussion about which direction to sign 'continuous work' - to find that very thing! finally gave up, returned to the video, and there was the answer! (I also sign it circling forward, away from the body.)

thank you I appreciate that! When my father first learned English, he learned best from shows and jumping into it. He said he'd learn full sentences and it helped him to work backwards to then understand the individual words. I've been doing that with ASL and it's been really helpful for me. :) but yes, both ways are helpful thank you

Im attempting to learn basics of ASL through youtube and have no background in ASL My suggestion is that you teach weeks first, so that the learner understands that laterality across the forearm is symbolic for multiple days. then maybe do just day, noon, night. then all day noon night. then every day , noon, night. Im picturing all of this as if the sun in the sky is in the palm of my hand

Ah yes, laterality (dominance of one side of the brain in controlling particular activities or functions, or of one of a pair of organs such as the eyes or hands). Heh... just messing with you. Sure, I see your point. It is a fun thing to consider -- which "advance organizers" or mental hooks will work for the majority of students the fastest and most effectively. The forearm also represents the horizon for the positioning of the sun in relation to the time of day. Thus there are lots of ways to approach it. It would be fun to do "A/B" testing and try different approaches and see which approaches work best. Maybe someday. Interestingly -- it seems that emotion may the approach that works best?!? Emotion causes chemicals in the brain to imprint experiences and leads to retention and the ability to recall.

Is there a difference between "appear" and "tampon", or is it just context?
@sign-language
@sign-language 3 жыл бұрын
Think of the signs APPEAR-(show-up) and TAMPON as being on the same spectrum with a lot of overlap. By that I mean yes, they can look the same and be distinguishable only by context -- however you can sign TAMPON using a micro-pause at the point of "insertion" resulting in a very minor difference. So sometimes the signs look the same. Sometimes the signs exhibit a very minor but observable difference. Plus be aware that many skilled signers prefer to just spell "tampon."
