@@arkhamkillzone to be fair, i'm not a high level player, so I don't know if this position converts to a win, but I can see the kid is up a pawn. @georgeheridis7973
@georgeheridis7973 Жыл бұрын
@@tacotuttle The original poster doesn't understand anything about the position, the format or the nature of competitive chess. First, the position: the guy who offered the draw has a losing position but has good drawing chances. The kid has a draw in the bag but is fighting for the win. So of course the kid is not interested in a draw. And he has the white pieces... According to the great Mikhail Tal, it is a crime against humanity to accept a draw with the white pieces. Second, the format: there is a ten second increment here, meaning every time you make a move you gain 10 seconds on the clock. So if you make 6 moves quickly you can bank around a minute's worth of time back on your clock. So the kid can generate plenty of time to find a plan to win. He's not desperate for time at all. Third, the nature of competitive chess: the original poster speaks of humility... there is no such concept at this level of chess. Here it's kill or be killed. There is no mercy. This kid undoubtedly spends 8 hours a day studying chess. He has a chance to topple a high rated opponent at a prestigious tournament. And when a kid beats an adult, they win extra rating points. Screw the draw, he thinks he's the better player. Unfortunately, he had a brain fart and forgot to move. But it's far better to lose that way than take a draw. If you're happy with a draw at this level you may as well quit. And finally, most youth coaches instruct their students NEVER to accept a draw under any circumstances.

It's not about criticizing (This is how you spell it btw), but it's rather about not taking a correct decision, especially when it is so obvious that it was the best decision. He was low on time and had run out of any good attacks. He may have wanted to play until the guy blundered but he didn't consider that his opponent had more than a minute left. It was a very poor decision to decline the draw, and he should be criticized.
