The guy in the suit with the yellow tie was something else. I just loved listen to him talk and get so excited and out of breath. Robin is my other favorite when he tells a story. Telling a story with intelligent language without talking down to someone is an art.

When Tony went scratching about with his finger on the residue at the bottom of the three legged bowl, I backhanded the monitor and hurt my finger. Archaeology induced primal reflex, is my guess. As usual, Phil seems in his element, although, he missed a chance to do some "experimental archaeology," making beer from the kelp harvest. The ingenious Viking/Scots could, and still today have the ability to brew with anything organic, it seems. But, I digress...

Black Irish were the result. I have a tintype of an ancestor that immigrated from Ireland and he looks as dark skinned as my great grandfather who was a full blood Alagonquin indian

Some of them ended up ashore in scotland too, on the mainland and in Shetland. A group of them even settled in westray in the orkney islands, building homes for themselves and marrying local women. They became known as the westray dons.

I recall the last time they did a wreck, he went down at first but Phil had a bad reaction to something in the air mix and didn't feel up to going back on the last day so Tony went with someone (who's remained nameless so far) instead. From the look on his face then, Phil regretted not being able to go so he'll be ecstatic if that doesn't happen here

Do an ancestry dna test. I did one a couple of years ago to see if I had any interesting dna ancestry...I revealed that my dna is 96% Scottish and 4% English and N European (Norman)!

If anyone is interested in the brightly coloured Italian Maiolica I was in the Victoria and Albert museum in London about 15 years ago and they had a whole room full of the stuff - an incredible sight, not to mention what it would be worth. This stuff should not be mixed up with the Victorian majolica from a much later time period.

if you pass through Faenza in Italy there is the majolica museum and many shops where it is still produced in the same way .. from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.. I do it because being able to look at the surrounding terrain on Google Earth adds a lot to the experience. Frequently crop marks show other features not covered by the dig. The information is posted on Time Team's website. No secrets there.

My grandmother was a Mackay and this is in the transitional lands of her clan. It’s almost humbling to see Stuart walking around in that land (and it’s weather!) and to think this is where her (and partially mine) ancestors eked out a living there at the same time when this wreck happened. Manu forti Grandma! Now my grandpa was a ne’er-do-well American who somehow got a lovely woman to marry him….😂😂

If the ship were foundering they might have done so, chucked the admiral's chest of fancy crockery overboard with it. I have also read of sending a cannon down with the anchor as a desperate measure to get more drag on the seabed against being driven ashore, given the tight grouping I wonder if that was the case here.

My mother was Dark Irish...Spanish Armada....Black Hair. Her skin was Irish and she was tall for her age. She's in agreement with the O'Rourke's. Her last name was in James Joyce's Ulysses.

No way they were gonna live like the grubby rabble grunts, would they now? So to bring your Wedgwood onto your Armada ship? Why not? Especially if you had more at home and you were sure this was going to be a walkover, as many Spanish undoubtedly did at first.

+Brad Black The funds required to conserve cannon because of their size is significant. When they have the proper amount of money, time (it will take many years to complete the conservation), and the proper facility to do the work, they probably will raise the cannon. Yes, cannon can be diagnostic, but conservation issues must take precedence to insure the health of the artifacts.

They’re not breathing a nitrogen rich mix, just breathing regular air is 78% nitrogen. They’re probably breathing Tri-Mix with a mixture of Oxygen, Helium, and Nitrogen to cut the nitrogen as far down as possible. Cuts down on decomposition time.

I am open to correction but doesn't the RAF do extensive training in open water rescue operations. I have seen footage where -particularly in Britain- they work with the land based rescue teams in everyday operations. are they not the most effective unit to do recovery and rescue in storms. I have heard the Navy find it extremely difficult to operate in storm conditions for search and rescue. But then again I couldn't imagine helicopters would be able to either.

In actual fact the wreck was discovered by an RAF diving club located at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland. Having discovered it I guess it was appropriate they would be given the chance to get involved in the Time Team project, especially as they knew exactly where to look!

Why did they allow that Spaniard to engage in such scurrilous historical revisionism? The defeat of the Spanish Armada (yes, it was a defeat) was a major English victory. The brilliant tactic of sending ships aflame amidst the 'great Armada' was enough to send the Spanish into blind panic, abandoning any grandiose plans they may have had for invasion! Historical accounts are full of lies. None more likely than those of great victories, of great heroic deeds, and other such things that would be fodder for national pride, especially at the time. Especially in the past when all the public knew was through news pamphlets and broadsheets from official accounts. Do you really think that they wouldn't have proclaimed that they won, quite unexpectedly, over the Armada due to their own merit rather than an accident of weather? And that is the version that is remembered in the UK? All types of officialdom, in every period, in every culture, has done this sort "PR", put a bit of positive spin to look good to their own people, to make more of anything they could while minimizing damages.

The point of investigating something is to find an answer to a question either way. Finding no evidence still answers the question they had. Investigations don't always lead to yes, sometimes they lead to no and that also provides data. That's why we do investigations in the first place.
