I have watched nearly every episode of this series. I can only think that these archeologists are incredibly robust people, who spend most of the day heaving soil and on their knees scraping at earth. They fascinate me. I have so much respect for their tenacity in solving the many conundrums that presents themselves on some of the digs. Best professors and professionals share all their knowledge of history too. I hope this show got awards. And as for Phil, what a lovely chap. Would love to be a fly on the wall in the pub after a hard days work with this bunch. I will watch to the very last recorded event. This is one of their all-round best episodes. The amount of detective work required to recreate the story of this palace is astonishing. And it's comical that the farm/work area of the home is where the lavish wings were. I have to say "kudos" to Jonathan Foyle who graciously eats humble pie for getting the building so wrong.

Its actually a story that repeated itself in many of the place ole Henry visited. Those apartment blocks were below copy sky expensive and many died a quite similar apathetic decay death. Post world war two tax at increases saw the total demolition of over a thousand such homes for example, a huge percentage of which were Tudor or older.

Not often mentioned, but should be said: Superb production; camerawork, editing, pacing, and production. The second half gives us a glimpse of the support structure behind the whole programme: double-decker “dining bus”, portable lavatories, and so on. Just like the archaeology, there is a lot more under the surface. BTW, anyone who wants to get an idea of the effort and work behind making a hawk for the hunt can start with T. H. White’s (“The once and Future King”) “The Goshawk”. Part of Henry VIII’s 1000-strong-plus entourage would have been huntsmen and falconers.

have a friend who was a licensed falconer. learned a lot from him. these shows were marvelous as long as Mick Aston was involved and then, after he quit, they started to dumb it down to match US TV

Absolutely! The Stewart man was Essential to that team, he found "savers" on multiple sites. If folks are trashing Stewart it's merely a reflection of their adolescent insecurities. The situation room is more often than not in a building.suppose because electricity is needed for the computers and printers. and one can not really working the rain? suppose all that would have deserved a seperate episode?

As a long time hunter using birds of prey, including doing bird/animal control at Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Canada, and a few other airports elsewhere, the first bird of prey that was seen flying was a falcon and they were, correctly stated, used for falconry. The second was a Harris Hawk, a species of hawk that originated in the south west of the USA around Arizona, etc. They are used in hawking. Falcons hunt birds (feathers), hawks hunt animals (fur). A third category is accipiters, which includes such birds as the goshawk. They usually hunt animals but also do sometimes take birds, depending on their location. Eagles are a different story and only hunt animals. The person who carried the CADGE was known as a CADGER because of his function and because he would CADGE money from people to whom he discussed the birds. The word CODGER is a derivative of CADGER.

Oh why on earth is Tony so determined to make the homeowner feel bad because Henry VIII wasn't a guest in her part of the house? Quite frankly, I would have been just as thrilled to find out The Elizabeth had slept there. A woman far ahead of her time, a ruler under extraordinary circumstances, all the intrigue and accomplishments, her reach across the pond....I hope the homeowner looks at it in a positive spirit.

Which ones? I think it's rather fitting that Henry VIII's lodgings were wiped out, just as he had razed all the monasteries in his realm and confiscated all their wealth, lands and possessions. That brought in a pretty penny he could reward his henchmen with, and still keep a heaping lion's share for himself and his peculiar form of alimony.

Sorry to say it, but Jonathan, with all of his confidence, seems to be more of a liability to Time Team. He's the same in other digs, where he brags about his great knowledge and the pros of Time Team prove him wrong. Pretty face, yeah, but his looks don't make up for years in the field. Maybe his "I know more than any of you lot" around such great archeologists just bugs me. I hope he continues on in his field and becomes really good, learning from his experience with Time Team.
