Ironically, I feel like it sounds LESS like a Shimomura piece now. I'm pretty much illiterate when it comes to music, so telling you what I dislike about it is pretty difficult. I feel like there's something missing, like the melody is ever so slightly off. The violin I find it almost overbearing, which is a shame, since it's my favorite instrument and it's one of Shimomura's hallmarks. There's also something not letting the song breath. I really wish she had gone back to rearrange her own tracks. At least it's not as distracting and mood killing as the new Engage the Enemy. Sorry for all the negativity
@rocketdog7344 жыл бұрын
@@oneish7454 Oneish I get what you mean, honestly One of the great things about the old track was how it worked so great with so little, which greatly impacted the tone shifts throughout it The remastered version here decided to go with a totally different feeling, lining the chords with organs to bring out the violins even further, which also takes more focus off the rest of the instruments in the background It's not necessarily a bad thing, they basically took the heart pumping, yet haunting melodies and said, "what if we intensified EVERYTHING"

What was wrong with the original? :/
@JesseMortonVO4 жыл бұрын
@@manimanistatue The original was a fine battle track, but hearing it for the majority of battles in a 100+ hour game made it lose its charm, especially after having a pumping track like Mechanical Rhythm take the role of main battle theme on Mechonis. Once I returned to Bionis, hearing the same theme from when my party was wittle wevel one felt like a loss of progression. In contrast, Xenoblade 2's main battle theme didn't overstay its welcome, and I never got tired of hearing it for that reason. If there was an entirely new battle theme made for when the party returns to Bionis, that'd solve everything. I'd feel more fond of Time to Fight, and I'd retain a sense of progression no matter where in the story I am.
@JesseMortonVO4 жыл бұрын
Oh bother, I failed to mention why I enjoy hearing the remastered version. Simply stated, it has more intensity than the original, and the melody is more distinct. It doesn't even feel overdramatic against the first crabble because it's the player's first fight (minus Dunban in sword valley of course), and it's aged well in my playthrough so far. There's a good chance I'll get tired of it for the same reason I previously stated, but even so, the theme now perfectly captures the idea of high stakes in battle.

There's a giant Tokilos in the background. He sees the screen and asks "are you getting ready to fight that bird?" I say not at all. I'm fighting these bunny rabbits with sticks on their tales. He replies "why is the music so angry if they're just rabbits?" I laughed pretty hard for a while. He got angry thinking I was laughing at him instead of what he said. But it made sense. Such an intense track for some creatures.

Probably one of the best remasters in the game, really. It feels way more defined, every instrument and layer got in each other's way in the original to create muddled noise, here I can actually tell the main melody apart from everything else, the violins are more defined, it fits together so much better.
