My only criticism is the rock, it will never decompose and will be a nightmare to remove . Wood mulch or garden stakes would have been best in my observation. This looks awesome

I decided on the stone for drainage. The Lavender in my experience does not like being surrounded by a wet mulch like wood chip mulch. Cheers Dave.

@@TreeChangeFarmer well yeah I know that but I'm confused because you're on top of the cheating so how would that affect the drainage? I'm asking because I am learning as well your video is really helping me out

Awesome vids, how is the lavender going? have you got an update? cheers

I did do a bit of an update on the lavender in the 'Good and Bad' video recently. The news is not good and I am sure why some of it has died. Could be disease in the soil or better too wet or being too dry. After a very wet few years and then a really dry summer I think there is a fungus in the soil. Cheers Dave

Hello sir! What do you mean when you say, "Harden them up" by leaving the seedlings in the sun for a few days? What change are you looking for? Thank you. Enjoying the videos

Because the tube stock is grown under cover in a greenhouse I put the trays out in the sun, starting at an hour a day and working up to 6 hours a day. This makes them more tolerent of the full sun and higher temperatures. If they are planted straight away I found that they wilt and die very quickly. Cheers Dave

Great video. Keep up the good work. Has the blue metal sunk into the soil in the older beds? Apart from keeping the weed matt from flying away, why blue metal? Could you use weed matt pegs.?

Hi there Bill. No the blue metal hasn't sunk. The soil is really bad, hard and dry and not much topsoil at all. I was trying to source crushed limestone instead of the blue metal. Reason was as it breaks down it would release lime into the soil which is great for the plants. I used gravel so as the rain runs off the weed mat in puts the moisture under the plants. Also the gravel gives me a spray edge so i can treat the weeds away from the plants. Also when I mow between the rows i put the mower wheels on the gravel and can cut he grass along the edge. I did buy a box of pins but haven't used them as yet!

@@TreeChangeFarmer I’d be mulching with wood chip. Within two years the wood chip will decompose and incorporate into the soil making it richer.
