I love the modular building a lot as well, and I think making a shelf city might be a cool idea. It will free up a lot of space giving my more room on the table to make more custom builds. You can also use the table space to rebuild out the amusement park with the custom lego friends builds.

Idea: put the modular buildings around a custom central park facing it and the central park can have a lot of nature and maybe a big stone statue of something in the middle Another idea: maybe try redesigning the insides or outsides of your modular builds to make them unique than the originals

The amusement park rides are something that seems like have been put on the back burner for some time. I would move them and make more room for a city. While sets on a table aren't a bad thing, something that makes it feel less like that is adding trees, recreation areas (like a city park or playground), little eating/sitting spots, etc, that make it come alive and add more color than the grey that are the road plates. I say this as someone who also has a city. Love the custom area and at the end of the day, do what makes you the happiest!

Build a shelf on the wall and put them there. You are awesome with your mocs!!! Or modulars on the end tables look cool too. The ones you aren't using, break them down and store them. You can rebuild later. Focus on middle earth. Your hill looks awesome and I'm excited to see where you and Ross go from here!!!

I love how Ninjago and the amusement sets really make ladyburg feel like a real city unlike a lot of other content builders who just plop Modular’s down and call it a day. Another suggestion would possibly adding cubed storage units in lieu of legs for some parts of the table when you need more storage if you’re opposed to wall shelves or more full height bookcases. Love the more custom fantasy aspect of your building but I really miss the friends content oddly enough!

As you know with Lego, Build, Destroy and Re-Build and that goes with Cities, MOC's and Amusement Parks. Like in real life, cities do change, although you only have a small area, I would still look at putting in an Amusement Park and you can always change them out late. You have all the rides etc and you can quickly put them together and it would make the whole city look complete and you can "Fit" it out later. Keep Brickin.

Hey emily i have an idea for some storage. What you should do is get a generic looking shelf and place it somewhere in the room that isn’t important. Then you should place the gwps that can’t go in the lego city in it like the eiffels apartment on it. But then the gwps like the new moving van can go in the city like someone is moving in somewhere. I hope you like this idea and i love your content.

Wow I love the downtown area now! It looks the best layout so far. One thing I don’t like too much though is that the green area of your layout is a bit too extensive but looks very empty for now. I personally would push some of the middle earth set up down a level and blend it in with the green areas you already have. Like instead of making it full middle earth, you can just make it more of a fantasy/enchanted forest area. It feels more like your thing, and it would save space to extend the amusement park or friends sets on the top shelf.

You could build up the vertical space. You're building hills into middle earth, why not the city, too. You could put smaller modules in the back going up the hills. It would create perspective. My hometown downtown has alleys between structures with tons of shops. It's called Acorn Alley. Cobbled walkways. You could save space by using allies. Are any of the modulars stackable? Shops on the bottom, apartments above? Love all of it, regardless. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I like the idea of an all custom Lego city which is going to be my idea when I move and can build a city. Maybe putting the modulars in the guest room as your downtown and bringing back the amusement park/Disney World would work. You could have a road going off the table up against the wall with a tunnel and the storyline could be that is the connection to downtown and have another brick buit tunnel where the modulars are which would be the road to the amusement park.

I would say box the amusement sets and coasters, everyone has those. Shelf the modulus in your guest room. Give yourself a nice big canvas for your custom builds. Unique builds are where it’s at in my opinion. Plus, you guys really enjoy the process. Oh and use the Eiffel Tower as parts for a castle. Save the boxes and instructions though. :)

Great work on the layout change! The people who say "Those are just sets on a table" are toxic and everything that is wrong with the Lego community. No one should be telling you how to play with or display your hobby/collectibles. There is a huge difference between offering suggestions/constructive criticism vs just being negative because someone isn't doing it the way you would have. Not all of us have the budget, skills or creative mind to execute such grand things; we all have our limits and many are content having sets displayed in their original form.

Yeah I have two modular buildings (so not enough to make a downtown area with) but they are both on a shelf and look really nice and present well individually so a shelf city wouldn’t be a bad idea. And for the amusement park, you can’t get rid of it there’s just too many incredible sets that have to stay so I think you should make an amusement park

Sorry for yelling but I shouted "get it out of there!" twice concerning that road to nowhere beside the Boutique Hotel. You have a few options there. I would end the road for sure at the Hotel so it just makes a left turn only and I would either make a nice covered patio for hoteliers to hang out there out to the edge of the table, or move the hotel to the edge of the table and make a cool hang out or alley between the hotel and the Diner, or make that road area a parking zone with marked spots. Nice to see the city though, makes me want to get my modulars arranged better for sure.

Possibly with the amusement park rides make more of a boardwalk type of park. Small walkways and food vendors and carnival type games in a strip. That would be fun and not take up too much room. Also just like middle earth you can have part of your city be pop culture themed. I loved your Disney main Street before. The best part of your city are the parts that make you light up when you talk about them. The only rules on it are the ones you qnd Ross place on it. Go nuts! Good luck

I think you should add more walking streets/park areas to places where it makes no sense to have a road like at 5:00. Adding trees on the sidewalks of the mils plates would really contrast well with the modulars as well.

You might be able to save space by removing the extra sidewalks on the road plates. I saw someone else talking about how they eat up a lot of unnecessary space since the modulars already come with sidewalks. It's also kind of weird having a sidewalk next to a sidewalk. But for now I definitely wouldn't get rid of your modulars. I feel like for a city, you need to have a down town area and for right now since you haven't made custom buildings yet, I'd keep them as place holders and even late maybe mix custome and official buildings together

OK, so please don't put yourself down! You have an amazing 'city' and are sharing your journey of learning to express yourself through lego. It's brilliant because it's true. I think you should leave the downtown area as is for now, having a beautiful area that feels complete lets you enjoy building out your first custom space. don't worry about changing is up until you've done the middle earth bit. then you can choose what you feel like doing then as you'll be more confident with your skills and have new ideas or even old ones that you want to revisit. A couple of times you've made comments about leaving complex stuff to Ross etc, but I just want to point out that you're learning skills he developed earlier, you can and will be doing those things in the future. so please don't feel pressured and enjoy the process and use the words like 'yet'! 'sets on a table' is how people learn, my understanding is that lego sets are meant to allow you to make something beautiful and learn skills while inspiring you to then make your own. building multiple sets and putting them on a table to work narratively IS learning, is building, and is a good thing! Enjoy this time of learning and doing what makes you feel good!

King's Dominion Amusement Park in Virginia has an Eiffel Tower near the entrance of the park. It is 1/3 the size of the real life tower. So, your Eiffel Tower would go most likely go good with the amusement park.

Putting together the two rows of modulars at 4:08 isn't actually a bad idea. I think if you separate them by half a baseplate you could come up with a pretty good pedestrian area. You could place all café's, shops, and town hall in the pedestrian area and it would be more challenging and interesting than simply placing another street, because you will be able to build a lot of custom MILS plates with plants, statues, fountains, food stands... Also, think of how cool the city centre will be when populated by all the minifigs! You should also use some bikes and electric scooters.

Custom builds would make your city unique and stand out for that reason. It’s not a problem to use at least a few official Lego sets as people will appreciate how you built around them. If it’s mostly just official Lego sets, your city won’t look much different from anyone elses

Don't scrap your modulars, they're a work of art. You can still custom your own ones and add to them without problem. However, that grey skyscrapper doesn't look in the same realism like the other regular modulars, I would scrap that one together with the other building from Marvel as well. Use the two scrapped buildings to build a more realist skyscraper and the oficial modular ones you should keep them. In any case though, I think you need a bigger room for your city... And another thing, you have two corner garages with one built mirrored, I think you should custom the gas station on the second one building there a different thing, like a store or something...

A suggestion would be to move the amusement park. As it is with the Eiffel Tower set, the city and then the hills, you have a great french vibe going on. You can build out the city like downtown Paris, leading to the tower, then out to the hills. Heck you can even, since you want to be creative, build out a winery in the hills.... :)

Hi Emmasaurus, My idea for the area between your (nicely renovated) downtown and the amusement park? Trees.
