@@martinhaskell376 I totally agree. I met Dom at Bicester whist I was working for a military motorsport charity. He was talking with the huy who is doing the interior of the 356, but still took the time for a pic with me and also a chat. I'd say that he would be a pleasure to spend time with. I didn't have the bottle to give him my "Dick and Dom in da Bunker" line (my name being Richard and all that), but I'm hoping it will be appreciated at a distance

I can fully understand your affection for the Caddy pick up: a fun and practical vehicle. When the seller was driving it in the field, the exhaust looked a little smoky - not surprising perhaps when it had been standing so long but may need to be looked into. Has it done a lot of miles ? Hope that it continues to be good news as you prepare the Caddy for an MoT and then, no doubt, tidy up the small rusty bits. Best wishes.

Nice! Here in the US the VW pickups were marketed as the "Rabbit" and somehow they all seemed to be painted a tan color. I never owned one, but had a close friend and band mate who had one when we were in our early 20s. Lots of fun memories with it. I had another acquaintance who had a diesel powered one (also painted tan!) and that one was severely under powered and struggled on any moderate inclines. I guess we should start a pool on how long you have this before it gets sold for parts for the Edwardian! (I'm just winding you up...) :)
You and John are the Morecambe and Wise of mechanical repairs.

As a former MK1 Golf owner, I approve of this content. Audi 4.2 engine swap? Seriously though, something like a 1.8T out of an Mk4 Golf/Audi TT is a cheap(ish) and readily available conversion for modern power in these. Have a look a Crazy Quiffs in Oxfordshire for spare parts, and on the Mk1 Golf Owners Club forum for seats and advice on these.
