I just retired at 60 and only now am I getting into precious metals. And financially, my wife and I are the foundation and anchor for our 2 daughters (30 & 27) so my metals are an anchor for our family and is part of our generational wealth transfer plan. My wife and kids are being educated on metals and their value to a portfolio. Locally, I've been buying from an elderly man at coin shows because his kids don't understand or have any desire to have metals so he's selling his stack, which is a good idea for him. Again, another great video!
@slapdat.byteme15 сағат бұрын
If you have a TRADITIONAL IRA and you’re ok moving some/all of it into gold and silver, rolling those it into a precious metals IRA can be a good way to boost your stack with an asset you already own. My wife & I each did this with a couple small IRAs we had. Then, since we’re both over 62, we started taking distributions of the metals. If you ever consider it, use a reputable metals dealer and metals custodian. Some bad actors out there (Regal Assets, Birch Gold). But there are several good ones… SD Bullion now has IRA custodian service, so they’re a 1-stop shop. That’s where we went. And no, this is not a sales pitch! Good luck with your stacking.

There's also a price list with how much I paid for each coin or tube, the date purchased, etc. I guess I should add prices at 6-month intervals, too, and keep it updated. My son-in-law is getting into PMs more so than my daughter. Either way, the PMs are in good hands. I've focused on 90% silver and pre-'33 gold, but I think I'm going to check out bars and rounds. I have to disagree with Harry about not buying fractional gold and saving up until you can buy an ounce. The reason I buy fractional is because I'm not good at saving money but I am good at saving my fractional gold. Plus I shopped hard and found some fractional 1/10 oz gold coins at about 5% over spot when I used my cash back credit card to purchase them.

Wife worked as bank teller 30 years. Numerous times elderly people would bring silver coins to turn in for paper currency. She would always try to explain what they had and that they would be much better off going to a coin shop as the bank would only pay face value. Seemed to be an easily understood concept, but in every instance they insisted on obtaining face value currency...so she would complete the transaction, and then purchase the coins from the bank at face and put a smile on my face when she got home and showed me the treasure. Sometimes it was quite a substantial amount of silver. It was sort of a luck of the draw thing, being the teller the person walked up to. These coins are still in our stack. She obtained a lot of interesting old paper currency too.

Do you have some acreage that you can grow food with a private well? Is your mortgage paid off? One thing I noticed about mortgages is that people think they have a 2% mortgage, but if you look at the amortization over 30 years, it's closer to 300% of the purchase price. If you are stacking to buy something like that, in the future, it's a good idea. But if you already have your land, and you don't have a well, then you should get a well before you start stacking. And if you don't have your mortgage paid off. You should think about it. Because the 2% is Very deceiving.

Never done stacking. The plan (as i see it and am implementing it) is to grow your producing assets commensurate with how you grow your hard assets and put a % (20% for instance) on what you want to have. So if you have $100k in stocks (for instance) then you would want $20k worth of hard assets. As your $100k grows, then the hard assets will grow too. That's how i work it with Dollar Cost Averaging in both. If you get capped with Silver for instance (in ounces due to weight), then you use the Silver to convert to Gold when it's advantageous via the Gold to Silver Ratio.

I make a goal every year on Junk Silver - last year I exceeded my goal by $500.00 face - so this year I upped my goal this year adding the $500.00 face. Reason I continue to accumulate pre 1965 US dimes, quarters and Halfs is my kids and grandkids will be able to sell if the need arises. I want to leave them real assets. I’m fortunate I’m able to live on my Pensions and Social Security and actually use the excess buying Silver. I do have a nice stack of Silver Eagles and Platinum Eagles - if I’m still alive when the Gold to Silver Ratio comes down to 40-1 I’ll convert some to Gold

I agree with an older collector should be trying to whittle down numismatics… I’m doing same as a 60 year old as my kids are not collectors nor is my wife… so I’m slowly selling off more common coins and will give directions on last few key date Morgan’s and Mercury Dimes… gotta think about these things now instead of leaving it to chance for the family… I’ve swapped out many numismatics for 3+ oz of gold and 300 ounces of silver… much easier for the wife and kids…

When I was 4 I would visit my grandpa and he would sit me on his lap and show me his coin collection. I would take a coin from his pocket change and he would look at the year and letter and he would say, let's look in the book and see if there's a blank space. If there was, he would let me press it into the cardboard hole he pointed to. If there was already a coin there, he would look at it and decide if the new coin was better and swap it out. Of course I didn't have a lot of patience doing it but it's one of the only memories of my grandpa. When he died, he left me his collection of nickels. I was so young my mom was struggling so she sold the coins. I can't blame her, she needed the money to raise me. She said he had one nickel with a three legged buffalo that was actually worth something. Years later she died and there were a few nickles that she didn't sell. I brought them to a guy to see if they had any value. He looked at them ... and said. "These are worthless! I won't give you anything." Harsh. I brought these down to Harry's and the difference is night and day. Sure, I was told they weren't worth very much, but nothing harsh. Then they suggested I keep them as a memory, which of course was exactly what I was going to do if they didn't have any significant monetary value. They now sit on my shelf. As to the guy that said the coins were worthless... I disagree. Harry's is the place to go. Kind and honest. I don't think you could go wrong.

Q. How much gold and silver do I need? A. As always, just a little bit more.

Coming back to another point you guys were making: I agree with retirement being the time to stop stacking. I set three goals, a near-term, medium-term, and long-term goal. After many years I am nearly at retirement and very close to my long term stacking goals - just a few ounces shy on the gold side. It's okay if I'm short, it wasn't something fixed in stone and having a goal kept me going. However, soon - once I retire - I move from being a buyer to being a seller. I will not buy any more and will sell a little as desired to supplement my retirement here and there. Hopefully, I leave much of it to my offspring. For that reason, I'll be doing as Harry and Adrian recommend and selling the more unusual/collectible stuff first in an attempt to leave only highly recognizable bullion to my heirs. I've always envisioned leaving a note for my heirs explaining how to sell the bullion since they have no idea what they're dealing with. SO WISH someone like Adrian would list out what a letter like that should say. So many of us are going to face this challenge.

I have stacked silver and a little gold for nine years now and have only sold 150 oz of sliver to pay off a loan, save the interest and to be one step further to a debt free life. I stack for the financial security I have never had growing up. Plus, it is a lot of fun spending money and knowing that I still have it in the form of precious metals. thanks for the show guys.
