Yeah, unknown ministry back-office wizard's produced them like cakes, but Voldi wouldn't be able to make one, given his ties to unspeakables/the ministry, so know-how wasn't the problem. Guess "love" was the secret ingredient to a time-turner, hence Voldi couldn't make one. It surprises me that you didn't mention that in PoA, time can not be changed. All their actions in the past already happened the first time around (eg. Harry saving himself). That's the biggest sin of Cursed Child: ignoring that and suddenly, time can be changed and you can create alternate timelines.

There is another problem with the Cursed Child: It works with a different type of time travel than we have in Prisoner of Azkaban. In PoA Harry and Hermiones time traveling is a loop, which means it takes place in one reality. Harry was already saved by himself, so it is determined to happen again, when the saved Harry goes back in time and saves his former self. They stay in one reality. When they were in the hospital wing before they time travelled, them saving Sirius and Buckbeak already happenned. In the Cursed Child however the timeline isnt linear. By time travelling they are creating a new alternate reality. If you would apply PoA time travel logic to the cursed child, them changing the past has technicly already happenned (since its in the past) so they couldnt really change the present, by going back in time. If you would apply Cursed Child logic to PoA Harry would have been kissed by a Dementor, because he would have never been able to save himself, because he wouldnt have survived the Dementors so he could later go back in time. Its a paradox.

I love how Prisoner of Azkaban represents time travel in the predestination form, or a Perpetual timeline. It's the most logical form of time travel and just makes since. It makes it so all time already exist and can't be changed. If at any moment in time you decide to time travel back, while living through time your future self already time traveled back and is existing in the timeline already. Then, in the future you travel back fulfilling what your future self had done. Harry even realizes that he saved himself and rushes towards his past self to save him from the dementors. Time Travel is really hard to explain with text though.

One problem I have with Cursed Child time travel is if the story was considered canon, Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy would make an appearance in the Goblet of Fire but that is not the case. It begs me the question, would the reader actually see Albus and Scorpius perform magic in the triwizard tournament? I didn't see it in the films. These incidents did not make it in the books.

Not only this book changes rules like aging process when returning to the present, but also time travel concept itself. In HP3 it was pretty clear that past can’t be changed because it already happened, so when you go back in time you’re not changing anything, you’re just repeating what your future else already did in the past. Whereas in the Cursed Child they went for « go back in time = new timeline when returning to the present » - which is definitely not how were introduced to time travel in HP universe in the first place..

Because this never happened. The time turner in Prisoner of Azkaban didn't change anything. If Harry's parents are dead, they are dead. He can't change that. Buckbeack and Sirius were never dead, they were always saved.

I don't know why people give Rowling so much hate for destroying the time turners in the fifth book. she is a good writer, when she introduced them she knew they could cause plot holes so she added limitations. when she realized the limitations wouldn't be enough she saw a smart opportunity to get rid of them and took it. just because she tried to fix her mistake later in the series doesn't mean she is a bad writer, if anything i feel it shows that she is a good writer because it shows that she cares about the series and wants it to make sense. if she had just decided to forget about them and left them in the story, there would be a lot more plot holes in the original series. why is it so bad that she tried to fix a small mistake.
