🔴 WATCH NEXT - Top 10 SEIKO 5 Watches - The BEST Watches for Under $200 👉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZTKpah-e9ZnlcU Here are more info for beginners: ** Typical power reserve ** Most modern automatic watches will provide at least 38 hours of power reserve when fully wound. You can take off your watch on Saturday night and it should be still running on Monday morning. If you need more than this typical entry-level power reserve without breaking the bank to much, go for a Powermatic 80 movement (80 hours of power reserve) that you can find at Hamilton (with their H line of movement), Tissot or Certina. ** Your watch is slow or fast ** If your automatic watch is slow or fast (up to 30 seconds per day), this is perfectly normal. Mechanical movement are not as precise as quartz ones. If you can't live with the lack of accuracy, you should take it to your local watch maker and ask him to regulate it for you. It might become as precise as -/+ 5 seconds a day if you're lucky. More luxurious pieces have better movement that are regulated to more positions, and can achieve better accuracy out of the box. Enjoy your first automatic watch!

I agree 100% about the enjoyment of winding, setting time - it’s why I bought automatic. It allows you to interact occasionally, but doesn’t take too much time like a basic mechanical watch. It’s best of both worlds - you can play with it and not be a slave to it 👍

Quartz watches can also be adjusted, and interacting with those hands on a quartz watch is pretty much the same experience as doing it with a mechanical watch.

I like your videos. Just to add, in case a viewer buys or inherits an old watch (say, from the 60's) that is a manual wind. When the watch is fully wound, there will be resistance, in which case you should stop winding, or risk damaging the watch.

I managed to “over-wind” a modern 2008 “automatic” dive watch I owned that used a Sellita SW200 movement. I too was under the impression that I could not not damage the watch thru over-winding via the crown, but I did. I wanted to maximize the amount of power stored in the spring and as I wound the watch, using the crown at the 3 O’clock position, I felt the crown get harder to wind when, all of a sudden, tiny gear teeth stripped off of something inside the movement. I saw the catastrophic result thru the display caseback, there were tiny bits of metal all over the inside. I had to send the watch in for repair.

With a screw down crown, I find that the most wear and tear on the watch is in cycling the screw down crown. With my Rolex OP I try to minimize opening and closing the crown because damaging the thread barrel is a hazard. So for a daily-wear, I avoid letting it stop by not wearing it over the weekend. In normal daily wear, I’ve not wound my automatics for months on end, and rarely need to adjust the time. So the cycles on the crown are only a few times a year! Not few times a month or week. (I track it’s running rate face-up and face-vertical. If it’s fast during the day, I leave face-vertical overnight. So for months on end: no setting or winding required. Only adjusting for daylight saving time.)

Annnnddd it begins ... 😁 This is exactly how I started with cheap homage watches (Chinese knockoffs) of various types and sizes to figure out what I like. Spent about $400😬 on mostly automatics and sided with diver's; Casio duro (Marlin) quartz. Then a iso certified Citizen eco-drive promaster diver's 200m, if accuracy and awesomeness at a budget is what you want here you go✔️ Then I fretted over, read every comment/article ever made and still didn't buy the skx007 over a Orient because, hacking, winding thickness blah blah blah!! Found out it had been discontinued, like FOREVER😱! I quickly bought two skx's on Amazon😂😂😂 Unreal watch, a true man's watch (should have been my first diver) no frills basic yet unreal how it can still look classy😍 . No hand winding yeah so, pick up and gives few shakes, quickset date and throw it on. No hacking, this is not meant for precision time keeping (Citizen eco-drive) it's a diver's watch😁, iso certified at that and I'd pick it for actual diving over the Citizen promaster for legibility. Now I'm ruined though.. my tastes in watches has now become so refined that the only watches that move me after all the cheapies are Citizen now the Skx007 is in the $300+ range😫 But, in the 5-700 area there is Sinn and Squale I guess... I'd rather save up for an Oris SixtyFive vintage diver reissue😍😍😍 Have fun my friend, remember to find what you like and then attach to brands that offer it at the price you can afford✔️ -😁🍻💙🌿🇱🇷

@@surfside75 True, but you can still see some modded ones sell for near that ($900). Wish I´d pick one up at that price, lowest I could see was around $270, still not a bad price though

Appreciate the video. Even tho it is now 4 yrs old. Today i got my first auto watch. (Jan 21 2023) A Tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic 80. I can see that spinning weight in the rear but thought to wind it the weight had to do full 360 turns. Thanks to you i know that just the back / forward movement is enough to wind it. Been thinking about getting a halfway decent watch for a while. I have an 10yr old + Wenger battery powered. Was ok but wanted something that looked nicer. Also have an Apple watch but got tired of it. Was looking at different brands and did not want to spend over 1k$ Canadian. Saw the Seastar on Tissot website and loved the look of it. Found one in a local mall store. Got a decent price on it in think. Got it for 849$ Canadian (plus tax) ~ 635$ USD + tax. (MSRP is 975$ Canadian)

Man, your channel is VERY GOOD. I'm from Brazil, I do not speak English very well, but I understand some things well. The high-top videos on the videos helped me a lot to understand what you wanted to see in the video. I know the video editing is difficult, but I would like to ask whenever possible to keep the topics before each subject, because if I do not know, I play in the online translator and I can already have an idea of the content that you want to pass. Thank you so much for having known your channel. Simple and with easy and great content to watch. Now I am reading all the texts in your blog. CONGRATULATIONS for EXCELLENT work. Great vídeo! Thanks again! After this, I guess I would prefer a quartz watch to use as a everyday watch. Is it ask too much for a vídeo with the best quartz watches under 400 USD? Looks that all the lists on KZbin prefer automatic watches and don't care about quartz. I just feel I am beeing sacrilegious with my request 😂. Cheers.

Not at all Daniel! Actually this makes a lot of sense, let me put this in my ideas list. Not sure if / when I'm gonna do it, but well worth digging. From the top of my head now: many good things at Hamilton, Casio, Seiko, Citizen, Frederique Constant... what style are you looking for?
@Noronhadiver
@Noronhadiver 5 жыл бұрын
@@TimedSquare I am looking for casual style. I love dive watches, but I have a small wrist, so I need the watch case to have 39mm (maximum). Hamilton Khaki Navy is too big for me, unfortunately ☹. I also love rubber strap and one color natos. I had a look on websites and I liked the Hamilton Khaki Field (almost the same style of the Citizen Military Eco Drive Black Dial). I also liked the Tissot Couturier Black Dial (I thought about a black rubber strap on it, or a nato) and like Victorinox as well. Thanks for answering, man. You are the best.

My dad got a seiko watch (he's friends gifted him) for he's birthday (in February) ever since he got it. I sometimes like to take a look and just appreciate how nice it is. I'm a 17 year old girl and today I decided to order one it's not as expensive as my dad's and it's definitely not the same brand. But I'm still so excited :DD.

After a few weeks on my current job, I decided to get a new watch. I didn't want something i had to worry about batteries with so i went looking for mechanical. And then i found out about automatics...sold! I wandered around looking at various websites and stores, until i wandered through TJMaxx on day and looked at their clearance on watches. I found a Fossil with a light blue see through face and steel body from their Commuter line. The movement is a 21 jewel one from japan. I was sold at the $60 price, and have used and abused it these past two years. It needs a new band and the crystal has a few scratches, but runs like a top. Even with its condition now, it is a conversation piece even if it is not as glamorous as an Omega or Rolex.

Thanks for such a helpful video. Just got a refurbished automatic Seiko watch from an Indian seller on eBay. It was going pretty well until late tonight. Then it stopped. Might just be I haven’t moved it enough today. But we’ll see. I have a good watch repair guy who can probably get it back up and running if it stops too often.
