It was a harsh time, Indy. People born on the bottom of society had few options, and kings all got their thrones the exact same way. Moreover, the east india company was a cartel for piracy, drug smuggling, and land theft, so fair is fair. Lastly, those punishments were pretty much standard for the era. The royal navy used flogging, keelhauling, and hanging to maintain discipline. Absolutely, not a dick.

Here's another good idea, one that's a perfect nexus of Indy's greatest loves, history and baseball. O is for owner, controller of teams, who provide baseball fans with a field of dreams, but sometimes an owner can make people hot, a miser and racist, this is Marge Schott. For those who don't know, Marge Schott was the infamous owner of the Cincinnati Reds for much of the 1980s and 90s. She was notorious for being cheap to the point of being detrimental to her players and was ultimately forced to sell the Reds because of her extreme racism and anti-semitism. She definitely deserves to be in the World Dicktionary.

Here is an absolutely excellent one - Flight Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings - former dictator of Ghana. This guy is absolutely interesting to learn about. He has - on multiple occasions - taken dictatorial control of Ghana, including facilitating human rights abuses. However, he actually basically spearheaded the movement to make Ghana a democracy. It's perhaps the only time in history someone like himself not only willingly gave up control of the country, but did so with little coercion from within or without the country by opposition forces. He didn't HAVE to give up his control, but he did it anyway. Why did he do it? Well, it seems the academic community isn't quite sure, I've read a bit about the guy and what I read hinted towards economic factors - primarily international aid - coming into play but that actually underestimates the guys intelligence in order to make sense but guy isn't dumb so I find the theory dubious. Even if you don't want to make an episode about the guy, anyone interested in Democratic transitions should look into Ghana's utterly unique transitional experience and should read about Jerry Rawlings, who would definitely have some conflicting tenets on the 'dick' scale.

Okay. I just finished watching the whole part series. I figure finishing the alphabet is on the back burner due to higher priorities? This is a good series and I like a bit of the joking about history. It does not always need to be heavy duty, so making a joke here and there is cool. Kind of like how I prefer getting my political news from comedians. I think these videos will rack up views over time as people find them, because they are pretty good. Simon bar Kokhba for rebel. his revolt basically destroyed Judea (as the area was trying to recover from the destruction of the jewish temple) The rabbi's of the Talmud pun on his name to bar Koziba- which literally means son of lie. The roman massacres were memorialized because he took along the sanhedrin on his little rebellion (rabbi akiva was one of his generals, and his death story is part of actual prayers because he burned with books). I think the K should be reserved to King Leopold II of Belgium. Who took Congo as his personal private property. He become rich trading with rubber. He hired a group of mercenaries for the administration of his possesions. He demanded that bullets should be used to kill people and not for hunting and a severed right hand should be shown for each bullet. Force labour and slavery was the norm. Those villages that didn't complain with the rubber cuota were erased. His administration was brutal and genocidal and he was responsible for the death of 10 million people, nearly half of the population.

Why he was a dick? He took Congo, a land 7 times the size of Belgium, appealing to his humanitarian and excellent qualities as administrator, to bring civilization. He left caciques to oversee the production of rubber, without supervision and away of government interferences to act as their own discretion, without being judge, as long as they made profit. When reports of the atrocities were evident, he dismissed them and do very little. When pictures of amputated people were shown to the public, he complains, not because it was an atrocity, but it harms its profit. The king of the dicks.
