I first watched this original video two weeks ago, and haven’t really been able to stop thinking about it. It’s really changed my outlook and life and is still changing me. Then I watched this, your reaction to that same video, and it made me feel better. I needed to see another human experience this information and emotion the same way I did, it’s a crazy thought experiment in a way! Thank you so much for sharing your reaction to this, it made me feel slightly connected when I’m currently feeling existentialism! 😊

I've seen this video 4 times now, and it still captivates me every time. One of the masterpieces of youtube, imo. Some info: Gravitational wave detections: Yea it took a lot of effort to detect the first one. But once they did they found out that black hole collisions are actually pretty common. We've detected a LOT of them already. I believe a few dozen? Not entirely sure on the number. Dark matter and dark energy: Dark matter is the mysterious gravitational influence we observe around most visible matter today. As in, there is far more gravity than visible matter would suggest. We call it dark matter for now, but we don't really know what it is yet. Dark energy is the mysterious force driving the accelerating expansion of the universe. But, once again, we don't know exactly what it is yet. "Dark" in both cases both means (so far) undetectable, and unknown. "Matter" is only used because whatever that extra gravity is, it has similar properties to matter. Though we don't even know if it's actually matter. "Energy" is used because we don't have a better term for the mysterious force. Harnessing the energy of space itself: It's called zero point energy. Research is being done into it, but we haven't even come close to finding a way to harness it yet. And a personal note: I would LOVE to be a scientist. Astrophysicist to be exact. This stuff interests and captivates me to no end. Problem is, I'm not smart enough. I can't get my head around even the simple math or formulae that astrophysics deals with. All I can do is learn the simplified versions that youtube brings me through channels like PBS spacetime, the history of the universe, SciShow space, and other such channels. Sometimes articles as well of course. But hey, at least I don't watch the Cardashians or other incredibly dumb drivel like that. :P

Some people might see this and feel meaningless since we're so insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe. But I think we're some of the most significant and unique things in the history of the universe, since life exists for such a short time. Planets, stars, and black holes might outlast us by far, but unlike them we have the gift of being able to witness and experience this universe for ourselves, something that's unique only to us.
@sphjinx1448

I’m one of those people that finds resounding peace and comfort in the knowledge that all of my small problems that seems so large really are meaningless in the grand scale of it all. I believe dark energy is the energy of life itself, souls of all living things that have been and ever will be. The more we experience, discover and create the bigger the universe becomes. The more we want to see the more space is given to explore. We are all the universe individually experiencing itself, all separate parts of the same whole.

You mentioned at one point “what if there was a way to harness dark energy”. Unfortunately, since it’s everywhere, that’s very hard to do, not energy gradient, no “cold reservoir” without that energy. Best we can do is hold plates very close together to suppress casimir energy, but since those require force to hold apart, it would end up being a battery at best.
@_Stargazer_.
@_Stargazer_. 2 жыл бұрын
Bro .. English please 🙏
@alecmeden6325
@alecmeden6325 2 жыл бұрын
@@_Stargazer_. it’s just hard with how short youtube makes comments. Basically, to get work outta a source of power, there needs to be a hot side and a cold side. Energy flows from the hot to the cold side, and you extract power from that flow. Literally every engine works that way. But since dark energy is everywhere, there’s no area where it’s colder, so u can’t run any engine with it. It’s useless. U can create little spots without this energy by holding two metal plates really close together, and that emptiness causes them to be pushed together (the dope sounding “casimir effect”) but that only really works as a battery and is pretty useless.
@Saeki2001
@Saeki2001 Жыл бұрын
So is dark energy absolute zero? Cause in the video it says that as the universe expands dark energy does not dilute away, so that would mean no matter where you go in the universe there will be dark energy, so if dark energy emits any kind of temperature wouldn't that mean absolute zero will never be possible @@alecmeden6325

It is a beautiful melody. It is insane how the story of humanity or the entire earth can be just summed up in under one minute. It is quite an existential feeling, how small and meaningless we really are. It is a story that seems to go on forever. And even in the end, there is still a force or space, that is bigger than we can imagine. Even bigger, than the story itself.

so the percentage that we living right now would be the .0s would be almost infinite and unfathomable to think about that's so cool and scary. For the people born between 2000-2010 like myself who were born into internet, and technology and not knowing anything before it. It means we have one of the most important roles known to man. Having to go through the technological era of us just figuring out what to do with it like literally we are kids handling technology like we know it when we do not, and it's only the begging for everything science, entertainment and so much more. We will teach the next generation to do better as the grow into the future of tech and more until we do better as a species and live on as one. I feel at some point in our lifetime we will see less fighting and political bull crap all over and we learn to grow as a species. So we can understand more of our amazing universe

Can you imagine being a form of intelligent life in these final periods of the universe. Just fleets of vagrant ships/stations trying to navigate to the nearest possible last source of energy. Hell. Not sure how much they'd care. They'd likely be living in virtual universes, living as gods. Even time might not be the same. 1 year inside a virtual universe could feel like 1000 years in the virtual one. They'd practically have an eternity to do whatever they wished. And by the time there's no more energy to create, id imagine they'd be fairly content.

but i dont get why all the stars eventually die, cause when a star goes supernova (the star has to be 2,5 times bigger than our sun) the remains is just the core surrounded by gas and dust. and outta thatgas and dust, new stars are born. So theres this cycle, when a star dies, a new star is born.

The coolest part of the whole video isn’t eve touched on much. When time becomes meaningless, there will still be random quantum fluctuations. Given that all possible fluctuations would eventually happen, one of those fluctuations that could result in the birth of a new universe will inevitably happen. From a temporally based point of view like our own, the eternity it takes for all those fluctuations to happen would be instantaneous…the instant time becomes meaningless, a new universe would be born. Couple that with the theory that there are ‘fingerprints’ on the CMB of some event before the Big Bang…maybe that’s what we are in…
