Tracy vs. Cueball is my favorite of the feature films. I used to have these on VHS and have watched them so many times that I would think they've grown old or dated somehow -- but no. I still dig these. When I left Washington State I hesitantly donated my entire VHS and Mp3 collections to the local library. Now I've learned to hang out on the WWW. Ain't it great !! Gotta love it !!

I've got this book called The Fifty Worst Films Ever Made. Dick Tracy vs. Cueball is one of the movies they listed. I was curious to see it, so I found it here on YT. Those writers didn't know what they were talking about. I guess they just don't appreciate movies the way I do.

@@gspendlove Yeah, that's ridiculous. I suppose they saw it because it went to Public Domain and they didn't have to look far for it. It's just a bad idea to watch movies from the 1930s - 1940s in the same way as one would with more modern films.
@gspendlove Жыл бұрын
@@101Volts Well, on the one hand, they did put Myra Breckenridge and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians in that book, surely two of the worst films ever made. On the other hand, they also had The Omen in there. The Omen. So there's good and bad judgment in everyone, I guess.

This was a pretty good movie! It had a good mystery, and I liked that when Tracy finds the shoe, he's not immediately certain that it's Junior's shoe, but admits that he's grasping at straws and will take any clue he can find. Junior was also a really great sidekick, very clever! The only complaint I had was how both Tracy and Junior raised a ruckus kicking into some junk on that boat. You're sneaking around, watch where you step!

Definitely the hottest in all of the series. Notice when Splitface leaves Junior and Tess alone to move the car, telling them not to try any thing, which they dutifully do. When Splitface comes back, he ties them up. I guess the writer didn't think that they should be tied up BEFORE he moved the car. You gotta love this stuff anyway. I also love to watch these old RKO movies as my cousin, Albert S. D''Agostino, was the art director for all of them. He was nominated five times for Academy Awards, but not for the Dick Tracy movies. On to the next one.

There's a section in the great book, Supreme City, (all about New York CIty in the late twenties into the thirties) that talks about the rise of The Daily Illustrated News, which became The Daily News. No other paper rose as quickly as it did, and one of the reasons was it's hiring of cartoonists. Like Chester Gould, who originally had a much longer name for his series. Patterson, who ran the paper, chose the name Dick. Patterson also paid extremely well for his cartoonists. Extremely. Money that would make most everybody today happy, and this was in 1929.

Junior - Born Theodore Matthew Michael Kuhn, Jr. on September 21, 1932 in Waukegan, Illinois. After he reached that age that he lost his "cute kid" looks - Hollywood sort of Dumped him. Junior was the Hero in this movie. Screw Tracy and his dippy girlfriend. Junior was the one who used his intellect and courage to solve their problems. I still can't understand how the writers and director let Tess just stand in the foyer of the old house - unguarded - alone - and NOT try to escape. A Major Oops !!
