Just saw this film a few weeks ago, and even as a 35 year old it scared me. Like being paralyzed or in a coma but able to talk and articulate, just without a body. The thought of just being a severed head without a body, no way of locomotion, staring at the same wall over and over, not even the ability turn my head just... *shudders*

If you ever visit North Carolina and find yourself on US 29 North outside of Greensboro Longtime fans of the movie may find the steps outside the welcome to NC center at the state line of interest. They are the same steps Dr. Cortner runs up carrying the bundle supposedly containing his fiance's head It was either still under construction or just finished when the film was shooting. Used to know where the crossroad was they drive through just before the crash but a lot of the roads in the area have been rerouted, closed, widened, or otherwise changed since so I'm no longer sure where it is

Most B-movie horror/science fiction from this era was horrendous. This one somehow works. Surgeon driving along in his automobile... Picks up some lady... Who invites him to a beauty pageant... Knock Knock Knock I wonder who that is... in that room... in which I locked a giant monster... Classic!

Kind of shocked to run across this. First, it's a "sexploitation" movie. That much is obvious when Dr. Bill Cortner goes looking for a body for his girlfriend. Some of his lines are quite funny too. From a woman's perspective he could be flirting, from his own, they are honest statements of intent. The dialog, though delivered in a ham-handed way, is decadent. But let us be honest. The film is a handy way to show off a bunch of young women with nice figures. I did find his soliloquy at the beginning of the film very interesting. Almost every one of his predictions regarding transplants have come true in the twenty-first century.

This is sort of an even cheaper (and female) version of the German-made film THE HEAD, which was essentially based, uncredited on the 1920's weird Russian novel, PROFESSOR DOWELL'S HEAD by the early amazing Russian SF author A. Belyayev! His book is a very creepy horror tale that was pretty unusual for having been written during the Soviet era! ---and this threadbare movie is kind of its "descendant".
