Timeline of recent fighting in eastern DRC

The 22nd of January, saw Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Angie Motshekga, visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The trip was meant to form part of her ongoing mission to prioritise the well-being and interests of South African soldiers in line with her "soldier first" principle.
Her itinerary was disrupted, however, when she had to be evacuated due to the movement of M23 troops. From then on, things went south for the SANDF and its troops.
