If Salman had thought even for a moment that his being human charity work would give a good name for him and reduce his sentence in the future - Laws of Karma would have recorded it. The prosecution could have taken the decision to not call Kamaal Khan for various reasons, including (1) even without Kamaal Khan's testimony the case against Salman Khan was strong enough to get a conviction based on other evidence. (2) Kamaal Khan may not have been sympathetic to Salman Khan's prosecution, and the prosecution may have thought it to be risky to have a hostile witness
