The soundboard error is EXACTLY what I love about this podcast/youtube video... It's nice to see Dan as a real dude that not only fucks up from time to time but isn't afraid to leave it in and not cut it out. Keep being real man, and KEEP ON SUCKIN'!

My brother and I found this podcast while searching for Mothman-related listening material during our road trip to the Mothman Museum last Saturday, and you have two new subscribers! Very informative and hilarious content! We loved your larger-than-life personality as well as the extremely thorough and exhaustive research!

It was the Donnie Darko effect, Dan. The buildup of the raw energy associated with tragedy sent a cerebral shockwave back in time, causing people to hallucinate astrological phenomenon.

I'm listening to this episode at work in Ohio, and the guy who builds the wooden pallets we use for shipping is from West Virginia. I have to say, your West Virginia character is spot on and had me laughing my ass off, because as you were doing it I was watching a man from West Virginia yell something at a piece of wood that he couldn't get a nail to go into that I can only describe as being Boomhauer Butt Baby gibberish. Thank you for the laugh

LMFAO! Now I don't feel so foolish about creeping out all my friends, having stalking them with my Buddy Lee Doll! I'd just... "leave him places". Sometimes with a note or prop. Oddly, I always seem to have gotten him back. Once in awhile, I'd wear a turtle neck and stuff him down with just his head popped out of the top. He had a little string on the back of his neck to make his mouth move. His mouth only moved about an inch, but it was enough to have him do 10 minutes about his fears of land sharks and people with two middle names. Thanks, Dan!

I was surprised you didn't bring up the one theory I've always thought most plausible concerning the mothman, then I tried to Google it and was surprised to see there wasn't much at all on the internet linking the 2. The theory is that the original outbreak of sitings was actually a small-scale outbreak of Ergotism, and the rest of the stories since then are combinations of local folklore/bar talk and people trying to profit off of hoax videos. What makes me believe that this is the most likely explanation is the symptoms (vision problems, extreme anxiety, etc.) that witnesses describe having had occured during the months and years after having witnessed the mothman being very similar to those of ergot poisoning. Edit: my phone was about to die so I had to hit submit before I could finish, but if the Salem witch trials taught me anything it is that the devil's rye + a small town where stories get telephone game'd around = mass hysteria

This, or something similar, apparently also lives in Virginia near the Kentucky line.. My son was driving me to the bus station at a town about 2 hours from where he lives when an owl suddenly slammed headfirst into the windshield. This was just before dusk. About five minutes later, a dark shape passed over the car. I only saw a shadow, but my son swears it was a black, winged creature about 6 - 8 feet long. A string of bad luck followed, including being pulled over and searched by the police and flipping the car. That happened on a deserted two-lane road that was freshly paved when we were only doing about 30 miles an hour around a slight curve. Next thing I knew, we just spun for no reason, went up the side of an embankment, and then flipped on the driver's side, landing in a shallow trench. Then just as suddenly, the car righted itself and landed with a thump back on the road and started right up. It wouldn't go faster than 40 after that, no matter what. Further down the road, a thick fog settled over everything that was so bad we couldn't even see the hood of the car. By that time, I had missed my bus and we were both so shook, we ended up just finding rooms at the closest hotel and driving back to his house in the morning.
