Thanks for the episode. I have chronic depression (actually diagnosed) and therapy is a very useful tool and something that needs to be utilized by more people. Stigmatization of mental health disorders is slowly diminishing but still has a long way to go. Thank you for your contributions. Hail Nimrod and praise be to the Good Boy Bojangles!!!

Exploding Head Syndrome is so weird!! It has happened to me a few times in my life and was accompanied with what felt like a rubber band snap in my brain. I even saw what looked like a jagged checkerboard behind my eyes which happens sometimes when I hear a sudden sound in the real world. The brain is so cool.

Thanks, Dan, for having this discussion. I have bp ll and and anxiety disorder but do very well on meds. I used to experience sleep paralysis and exploding head syndrome, both were a result of stress and lack of sleep, and haven't happened in years. I can't stand loud noises and wear Bluetooth headphones all day to block them out. After listening to this podcast I realize that things could be worse.

I experienced the symptom of exploding head syndrome, I was sleep deprived and stressed, I was napping on the couch and before actually falling asleep I heard what sounded like a gunshot, but there was nothing and everyone was fast asleep. It happened several times. But after getting a good sleep on regular basis it never happened again. I mean it was a weird experience.

Anyone else have misophonia in regards to the sound of pouring liquid?? Or am I the only one ready to literally fight my roommates whenever they use the Brita?
@thomassloat79364 жыл бұрын
Thank you for spending the time to cover Misophonia. I was 16 when I blurted out at the dinner table for my Dad to stop breathing so loud (I am now 46). From that point on I was very aware of my anger when triggered. I don't ever remember thinking that something was wrong with me, but instead, I struggled with not understanding why others didn't recognize the issue. I finally heard about Misophonia about 5 years ago through a text from my ex-girlfriend's daughter. It was like a revelation. I stop eating popcorn when the theater goes quiet, why can't the rest of you!?

Had an ex who had Misophonia. I once sent her a webm of bass boosted crunching from the Penguins of Madagascar movie. My friend sent me it, and it had me laughing too hard in Wal-Mart, so I sent it to her, forgetting she had Misophonia. I couldn't stop myself from crying from laughter after I realized that. Good shit.

Anxiety is a physiological reaction to anxiousness. Sometimes anxiety can present itself even when you're not feeling anxious. Its the same feeling as tilting too far back in a chair but perpetually. It can also present as irritability and catatonic dissociation.

Dear suckmaster supreme You mentioned a condition that I have 1:08:32 Mirror touch synesthesia. I prefer to call it empathetic synesthesia (sin--ist--ease--ee--uh for captain mushmouth) because that more closely resembles what happens. It's a condition where if I see something happening to someone or someone do something that I've done before I also feel like I'm doing it as well. It's most notable when it comes to pain, like if I see someone in my office get a papercut, I also feel like I got a papercut on the same finger. This made it especially hard to visit my grandpa in the hospital after his heart surgery because I've had a pulled muscle in my chest before so when I knew he had chest pain from surgery I felt like I pulled a chest muscle again. This also happens with everyday things I see people do like kissing, hugging, hand holding, typing on keyboards, separating paper, sneezing, itching, coughing, headaches and eating. The eating part makes it difficult to talk to people while they're eating because I'll feel like I'm chewing and swallowing food while talking and it'll make me stumble and distract me and make me lose my train of thought. Luckily, most people in my life know about my condition and don't think I'm being rude when I look away when they're doing something or get a cut. It's not a horrible condition to have, though sometimes I'll have a lot of pain in my arm or stomach and think I might need to see a doctor but then I remember that I saw a video of someone getting hit there or something and remind myself that it's all in my head. So far I've met two other people who have this condition as well. They were like me in that they didn't know it was abnormal until they found out that it is and it has a name. We're friends now (yay, mental disorder buddies) and I don't know how common or uncommon it is but on my end it doesn't seem very rare, though I might be in a unique situation. And, to answer your question, yes. It does make watching porn more interesting, MMA is difficult to watch BUUUUUUT action movies are okay because I can tell myself that it's all fake and they're not getting hurt which (usually) lessens or makes the condition go away. That along with the fact that action movies are so over the top and unrealistic that I don't feel anything when watching because it's so disconnected from reality.

Omg, I totally had Alice in Wonderland syndrome as a kid! I had several episodes at night where I just lay panicking, because I felt like my room was both large and small. I remember a feeling as if a tire was balancing on a strand of hair that wouldnt break despite the impossible weight. There were shocks of color and ribbons of light despite the room being completely dark. This episode would last for an hour, and I'd just suffer through it. This stopped just before middle school. Now I think I know what this was, so thank you TimeSuck!

I experience Alice in Wonderland Syndrome! I just thought I was nuts til I read about it a few years ago. I'm short and can't reach anything but every now and then I am several feet below a thing. Sometimes my hallway seems to go on and on, my husband likes to call this House of Leaves Syndrome. I understand what it is so I can talk myself through it well enough, but I'm always afraid it will hit while I'm driving. I've been told it's related to my regular migraines, nothing I can do about it.

I think I might have exploding head syndrome. There have been nights where I SWEAR I hear my door (which is closed) slam shut or get punched, I also usually see a sudden flash of white when this happens. My son, who sleeps in the same room as me, never wakes up, stirs, or otherwise reacts to it.
