Decided to have my cat put down 2 weeks ago. He was 20 and sick. Wont go into details. I dont know if I "envy" those, whose pets just died naturally. It sucks to put them to sleep and I always hoped, it wouldnt have to come to that. It is what it is. Dreaded moment is behind me. Sadness ahead.

People who don't have pets will never get what it's like for a pet to die. We had our dog for nearly 20 years. My very first memory in life, was when , as a toddler, we went to get him. He died when I was in my 20's. He was about all through my school days, first girlfriend, first pint, first job. That was a hard one to swallow. Rip George.

Best video I have seen so far on trying to deal with the loss of your cat. My big boy of 15 years died a couple days ago and I have found it very, very hard to cope. I see him everywhere inside and outside our house - but he is not there. We buried him in our backyard, and I go to his gravesite often, I cry often, I loved him so much it is beyond measure. Life without him feels so empty. I look at photos of him, including one I just took a few days before he died, and I cry some more. I am not a crier - but i have been bawling like a baby and i have an indescribably deep hurt inside the pit of my stomach that will just not go away. This video did help and was beautiful. You obviously had a very, very special cat like I did. Thank you so much for posting this. Thank you to our beautiful cats too who while bringing much pain upon their passing, brought immeasurable joy and love during their time with us. Rest in piece my buddy, Ernie, I love you more than you could ever know -- I hope wherever you are now you do know.

Hi Lauren. It's taken a good month to get over. But even this morning I thought about my G unit as I came downstairs for breakfast...but it wasn't a painful memory that would have caused me to burst out crying like in the month after his death. Rather it was a warm internal acknowledgement that we'd had a great time together.

Omg, I know exactly what you are saying. I am so, so sorry for your loss 😞 Thankyou for your comment as I don't know anyone else who understands how otherworldly the love for our furry friends can be. I am so glad I came across Big G/Stumpy G' s Dad dads video, I resonate so much💕💔😞🤗 My Misty, My Velcro Kitty, my best friend... Passed nearly 2 weeks ago. She was 16, her kidneys were declining and so was she. She had this look in her eyes that said it was time and it near broke me 😞 She was so much more than feline and way better than any human. Not quite cat, not quite human.. Deffinantly Better 🤗 I do not want her to be not here, I did not want a life without her in it. I did not want to sleep without her arms around my neck, she is the greatest loss of my life 😞 Losing my Father was tough but losing Misty is insurmountable.💔. I have experienced so much trauma and hardships in my life and Misty helped me through a lot of them, she was my reason 💕 I loved her, her whole life and I am so thankful that she loved me ❤

My old boy died at the age of 21. His last day was sunny after a week of dull rainy he struggled and stumbled to his favourite sunny patch and stayed there till the sun was gone. I carried back to his bed at the end of the day and laid him down and gave him lost of strokes and he meowed and meowed, I left the room and when I came back in 10 minutes later he was gone. I cried and laid my face on him trying to hear a heart beat, gave him a few more strokes and thanked him for being my cat.

My beloved cat Petunia passed away. I was with her at the end. I was flooded with a strange bifurcated feeling of total sadness and loss, fighting against a cold rational stiff upper lip inner voice, saying don’t get carried away, she’s just a cat. She was just a cat. But she was also my sidekick and companion for 12 years. When we found each other, I was just a kid in my 20s. Now I’m a 40 year old husband and father. She’s been a silent witness to so much, and a rare constant in my life. I’ve experienced pet deaths before, but this one hits different. My first pet out of the family home, that was purely mine. My duty, my responsibility. Even the word pet, sounds so reductive. Somehow belittling the relationship we had. She was more than that. A wordless bond. I adopted her when she was just 5 days old from the Humane society. She had been found on the street and taken in. Broken tail, gunky eye. They gave her the name Petunia. It suited her, so I kept it. I bottle fed her every 2 hours until she could eat solid food. She kept me company when I was a stranger in a foreign land with non of my family and friends. Always present through the ups and downs. Leaving home makes you feel kind of unmoored from your centre of gravity, and she was a huge stabilizing force for me over the years. She was there through relationships. Job changes. 4 different apartments. She watched me scream at the TV when England got knocked out of a tournament every 2 years. She next to me when I played Xbox. She was there to meet my future wife when I brought her home for the first time. She was one of 6 attendees at our wedding. A lone bridesmaid, dressed in a pink dress (that she hated). She liked to sleep on her belly when she was pregnant. She was the first to meet our kids when we brought them home from the hospital. She helped to teach my eldest how to walk. One of my youngest first words was Tunesy. It’s hard to be in the house. I keep catching glimpses of her. Every corner, every shadow. I’m sad she won’t be here for any more milestones. But how lucky we were to have her for the time we did. They loved her. We all loved her. Rest in peace, Tunesybear. I’ll miss you.

my first and oldest cat died two weeks ago. He was 9 years old when he died. He had gotten out of the house for about 2 weeks. When he finally came back he was in rough shape. He mostly sleep for the first month. Around week 5 he started to be his old self again. I was happy thinking he is going to be okay. Then towards the end of week 6 he vomited a few times and died suddenly. I had gone out to run an errand and when i came back i found him laid out in my dining room floor. He had died less than 1/2 and hour before that. I didn't bring him to vet because he was extremely afraid of people and being handled by them. I though the stress of going to vet was enough to kill him. He did have trouble most of his life with regurgitating food and had a poor appetite. I don't think seeing a vet would have made any difference or that is what I tell myself to reduce the guilt i feel. I hope that someday after i die that i can see him again. I really miss him and think about him everyday.

You apologised a few times throughout but I commend your composure telling this story. My 14-year-old just passed away this week and I'm gutted. She'd been getting worse for awhile now after she was diagnosed with cancer, last weekend she started losing strength in her feet and I pretty much had to carry her around and help her. Took her to the vet and after a few tests we decided to let her rest. A piece of me died on Monday, but I hope I'll be able to talk about it as collected as you did. Thank you for sharing.

After struggling for 4 months with fluid drainages and all sorts of pills that would just put him back in heart failure, his heart got full of clots. I lost my 14 year old companion 8 months ago. She had such unconditional love, and could read me so well as was my care companion while going through some horrible challenges. She was 14 and so full of life and then she wasn’t and had to have her put to sleep. The memory of that feels so traumatic even though it was peaceful .I loved, love her so much, I can’t believe she’s gone and feel I’ll never get over losing such a best friend who was devoted to me, the friendship much more full of depth than most human friendships. I had her cremated the same but cannot spread her ashes yet, I hold them and long for her on my knee comforting me while I stroke her and her purr so calming. She sought me out constantly, finding me. I hope she knows how much I love, miss snd needed her🥲🥲❤️❤️

I'm sure George knew how much he was loved. I'm down to my last cat now and he's ancient for his breed, so we know that train is coming down the line. It's a couple of stations away at the moment. For the time being he's doing well, and that's all we can wish for. The day I had to have my first cat, a ginger boy, put to sleep, part of me died with him. Then two years ago I lost my second cat and then last year her daughter died. No matter how long they live, it's never enough. They are truly magnificent creatures and they teach us so much about unconditional love and how to live in the moment. Big hug from Cornwall.

When you announced that Big G had died, that night I lit a candle to help him on his way. Having lost many friends and family (which includes pets) in my life, I’ve always thought lighting a candle helps - it gives me the chance to stare at the flame and think of the good times. It also means every time I light a candle, I automatically think of one of them, which keeps their memory alive. Your eulogy was lovely - thank you for sharing this with us. Take care.

Sat here, tears rolling down my cheeks and my jet black friend of 17 years on the back of the sofa behind me. We can feel every ounce of your pain but also know how much love and fun Big G will have brought into the home. Take care and love to you both 😿😿

I lost my boxer, Cassie, the same month. You’ve put absolute beauty and eloquence in your words to honour your mate and it definitely speaks to my love for my old girl. Gave me many tears but purely empathy on what you were going through. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼

Blimey James, that was heart rending. I'm not a cat lover, more a dog person but that pulled my heart strings like an archer! My Mum had an old mongrel terrier which we inherited when she died at age 93. He was 16. A bit deaf, eyesight not to good ( like me now at 65!) Probably not the best 3 years of his life but he plodded on until 19 and the time came when his quality of life was non-existent, totally blind, deaf and incontinent. What do you do? I think I knew but just couldn't do it. Anyway my brother came to the rescue and took him to be euthenised. I felt really awful but just couldn't bear to see him thew way that he was. On a positive note, he gave my Mum a great deal of pleasure in her last 16 years of life. And I still have a picture of him on my desk to this day! My kids have various cats and dogs so we now enjoy those very much! Plus we have grand children so life in old age is good!

22 years together. I took her to the vets yesterday. The apartment feels so empty without her. No longer a home. But I am so grateful for the honour of having been her friend.

I don’t know how you held it together there mate. Im in bits, so much resonates from when we lost our tabby 3 years ago. I still miss him. Pets will always have a special place in our hearts. Funny things you miss like every time I opened the fridge he’d appear as there’d usually be a bit of chicken or ham for him. RIP big G x

my cat friend Tomkat of 16 years was just taken by a mountain lion 3 days ago at night. He had a lot of pain in bad hips and perhaps could not move fast enough. I too am completely destroyed. He was my sole companion the last 4 years 24/7. This video helped. Thank you.

Im so sorry for your loss💚 George appreciated the loving life you gave him and now hes travelling on a new beautiful journey and will drop in from time to time to check on youz. Our cats do. I love everything you've so poetically said. Animsls are here to guide us back to our true Nature - Love Atm I have a 21 yr old with Dementia. My last loss was my Chicken Angel and when she died I didn't speak for 2 months - Farmed animals are the innocent we think of as not important. Angel was one of many rescues from hell farms. I nursed the sick babies back to health. Angel was one of those and every night I would take her inside. She had to have medication and slept in the bathroom. She soon got used to that routine and at dusk would come inside, I was usually preparing dinner & she would come sit by my feet and chat non stop. Everytime I took her to her bed she would come running out shrieking to sit by my feet. I would have to go sit in the bathroom with her until she felt ready for bed. We had alot of chats. When she was healed, she went back to her flock. They all knew their names. Everytime Angel got pecked, Id hear her screaming and running towards the back door, she would run straight to the room I was in at the time - something that amazed me - she would yell angrily that her sister pecked her and wanted me to go back outside to tell her off. I have amazing stories about chickens that people would not believe. I never felt a closeness to farm animals but when I found out the horrific injustices done to souls that felt suferring I felt like a psychopath that harmed the innocent for pleasure so I stopped doing so and went Vegan & so began my journey & connection with Nature & also bonus - at 55, I was very sick but going Vegan healed my body (I had been heading for a stroke and was pre-diabetic & struggling) and now I see and feel so much more - 7yrs now. Angel died bc Chickens bodies are not meant to lay eggs everyday, they're meant to lay eggs once a month akin to a woman having her period. So the eggs often get stuck inside them and they need an operation but I was so busy at that time I didnt notice the early symptoms so Angel died. Im finding it difficult to forgive myself. All I can do is pay attention to my cat & dog I have and never be too busy to help them💚 I told all my non vegan friends I could not speak to them for a while. Animals & Nature are innocent and teach us so much if we care to FEEL & LISTEN💚🐥💚

Just seeing this with tears streaming. I hope you have some peace now that it's been 2 years? This must have been so hard to make but least now you have memoralised. your little minx. I don't know what i'm going to do when i lose my little one. I just pray she goes before me cause she's my little shadow. I know she'd be lost without me. This is why it took me 40 years to have a pet! I love her more than any human. This is going to kill me x

Wow🥲 how touching.. I’m glad you put this video out and am so sorry for your loss, I can feel your pain, but more importantly the love you gave and received oozes from you.. I’m not a cat person but that doesn’t matter because I understand all the emotions your going through- it comes with the Territory when you make a pet part of your family, and I know that we become better people because of them and they become the glue in a family unit, we took a rescue dog in who totally changed our family and home, the love we receive is second to none and we couldn’t imagine our lives and home without her.. your loss is hard but he left you memories that will pull you through it all… 👍👏

Hi i am absolutely dreading the day that we have to say goodbye to our little dog. She has been a great companion to me but at the age of 12 i feel her Golden Years have passed her by. She can be a pain at times but our pain a lovely pain. Great story telling James its not easy im sure. Just also wanted to share with you in case i am the only who who saw this, at 12:40 in the video if you look towards James and as you look look over his right shoulder what looks like a baby squirrel runs down the fence ! Maybe a sign who knows. I have given my little dog a couple of extra treats today and thought well 2 wont hurt!😉
