James, This has been gold for me :) You might remember that I started my PPL last year (partly due to your videos!) but everything has been delayed so much due to this virus. I'm finally on circuits now and hope to do first Solo in a couple of hours - weather and lockdowns permitting. Thanks for this as it keeps me going. In an Airplane style quote - looks like I picked the wrong year to start flying lessons!

Great video and what an experience for both of you. I fly for an airline and with plenty of spare time as of late, I've been giving my heating system some TLC. Your videos have been top notch and then I stumbled on this. I remember taking my Dad flying for the first time when I was 17 ... yours looked a lot calmer! I learnt to fly out of Denham and ventured to Duxford a few times, great place. Your flying is definitely better than my plumbing, really impressed with handling of comms. Keep up the good work!

Love it, James!! I've been wanting to become a pilot for years and never got round to it (aged 39 now). I will get into soon though as a new business is starting to pay off and makes it all more affordable. Sadly, I recently missed the chance to take my dad up with me, so I enjoyed this video because I'd love to spend another day with my old man like you did with yours. Treasure that for as long as you can, mate. Keep the videos coming and HOLD TIGHT.

Brilliant find via your plumbing vids! I got my PPl 10 years ago and first thing I did was take various people over their houses of course, doesn't every new pilot?! I then did a couple of Le Touqets and Isle of Wights followed numerous £100 burger runs. Did a total of 250 ish hours over a few years and haven't flown since 2018. Keep thinking about getting back into it but need some inspiration to fire me up. Enjoyable video though

Just an apple watch. Set it every 10 minutes.

Nice one James...great to top up the memory bank by spending time with your dad. Perhaps you'd consider flying over to Weston Super Mare sometime into Bristol EGGD as i'd well love a flight around my local surroundings. Wonder how much it costs to do the PPL? Anyway, I enjoyed your video and Duxford is a great place to fly from. Are you based in Cambridge or do you fly elsewhere?..As that American controller said, "Have a nice day"!

Make the best of the time you have with your dad. I lost mine 25 years ago. He was only 44. Miss him every day. Could you elaborate on what do you meant by "you bought a share of the place?"? Thanks.
@TimesWithJames4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carlos, sorry about you Dad.When I say 'I bought a share' I mean I've put in to buy a part of this Aeroplane. I could never afford it all on my own, so 10 or so pilots get together and buy a 10th each. Then we all put into the pot to cover maintenance etc. Hope that helps!
@CarlosArruda774 жыл бұрын
@@TimesWithJames That sure does help. Funny enough, I have seen on Facebook yesterday, someone selling 1/8 of a plane for £2,000.00 and it thenw as cleared to me what you meant. That's cool man. Don’t be so hard on that poor Cessna student callsign, he’s obviously still learning and everyone makes mistakes. He might not have nailed the 4nm call, but you’re both as responsible as each other for separation. Your orbit was definitely the right choice though 🙂
@TimesWithJames4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get you! You can tell from his calls that he's a student. One thing I'd say Is that my orbit was probably in the wrong direction (effectively turning into traffic coming from base) so next time I'll turn towards the deadside! Just hate it when you hear those calls and it's like...."Where the hell is he?!?"
@ShadowSix4 жыл бұрын
@@TimesWithJames After the 'incident' you can actually hear Duxford re-introduce his "student" prefix on the callsign, and he replies with it as well... I suspect used as a subtle reminder that he's solo and might not be entirely predictable :D The orbit direction with hindsight probably should have been to the North you're right, (I think you actually called an orbit to the East which wasn't tremendously helpful :D ) but it's a really busy phase of flight, and I reckon if you'd have heard someone else in the circuit it would have prompted you to turn away from it. I did something similar joining the circuit on a right base and meeting downwind traffic just before the turn. For some reason I elected to make a right hand orbit for spacing putting me against potential downwind traffic. At the time I just wanted to keep him on my left where I could see him rather than turning away and putting him under the fuselage, but turning against the circuit direction is never a good idea and I gave myself a good talking to afterwards. As it was it looked like you had your hands full with that turbulence! P.S. how lucky you are to be based at Duxford... I've flown in once recently and can't wait to go back when it all opens up again!
