Season 3 Episode 3: A picture of Christ has turned up; it's believed to belong to the Knights Templar, a medieval order of monks who gave their name to the village of Templecombe. Join the Time Team for another dig into Britain's history.
#TimeTeam #FullEpisode #Medieval
In Somerset, the Team search for evidence of the Knights Templar, the fighting monks who protected pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land in the 12th and 13th centuries. They discover the site of the Monks priory but the exact location of the original building has been confused by later construction. The Time Team set themselves the task of untangling the ruins and coming to grips with the history of the location.
Time Team is a British TV series following specialists who dig deep to uncover as much as they can about Britain's archaeology and history.

as far as i was reading up other clips, related to -Time team-, when BBC changed the format, for whatever reasons, ( quotes?) Professor Mick Aston was not ousted by the BBC,but he left by himself. Claiming that the show has gone toi commercial. and does not concentrate solely on archaeology. Though one thing is for sure, he is been missed. RIP a great man..

He was coached to be 'Joe Average.' He had no training or special interest. He was employed to be the person who asked the 'dumb' questions that viewers wanted answers to... His skill as an actor, was to make it seem spontaneous. In much later episodes, a few young archeaologists who worked on just a few digs - not these early ones, said Tony spent most of the time sitting in the car, showing little interest. Then he'd be called out and filmed rushing about, looking excited, asking questions. Then he'd go back to the car... Mick and Phil, Carenza, John, Mat and Raksha are career academics. They were 100% genuinely excited

Huge TT fan. I have often wondered about the Templar "severed head" accusation - I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian and the Icon is the Mandylion and is a common Icon on Orthodox Iconastis, often located prominently above the Royal Doors entrance to the the Altar. The Templars may well have adopted Eastern Iconography given their activities were focussed in the east.
@lindasue8719
@lindasue8719 2 жыл бұрын
Should it be called a disembodied head rather than a severed head? The latter seems to suggest decapitation! When they were discussing it it put me in mind of the ancient Irish tradition of head worship.. but I think that predates the Templars by a long way. Maybe somebody else could comment on that.

Did they blow it? They went there to find the site and they found it, they know exactly where the borders of it are. They just didn't find more buildings than the church which all buildings was just an extra credit. What was found will be very useful for future digs and that was the goal so I think they did a good job, just not the best they could have done.

@@bethbartlett5692 Hi Beth, The show first aired in January 1994, although it follows a very short lived prototype series featuring Mick Aston (colourful sweater guy) called Time Signs, which aired in 1991. Aston was very much the central figure and driving force for the show, having a deep rooted love for archeology and the teaching of history to the general public. The show ran continually for 20 years, ending in 2014, shortly after Aston's death in 2013. There are no plans to bring the show back, however Tony Robinson has occasionally voiced the desire to do a one-off special, primarily to revisit old sites and honor the memory of Mick Aston. Hope that helps answer a couple of your questions. :)

I've watched many of the season 13 and 15 episodes, and... boy are those guys young here. And fresh. I'm glad that I started with the newer episodes, because they are much more professional. The team really matured. An interesting episode none the less, and an interesting glimpse into the younger copies of all of our friends.

I actually prefer these episodes. The last episodes with introduced young women, and young men, etc were heading towards awful. All due to the idiot producers who fiddled with perfection. Trying to 'sex up' a programme that appeals to people who scorn such shallowness, just annoyed viewers. So then producers blamed show, not their inane decisions, and closed it down.

Interestingly, it's always the brewers who perpetuate the myth that people didn't drink water in the medieval period. Of course they did. Just like today, the people who could afford beer or wine probably drank it fairly often, but most people simply drank water from reliable sources. There are tons of records from the time period attesting to what people drank, and it was mostly water.

Back when I was visiting the Uk in the 80s and 90s, they had about half the number of broadcasting channels than was common in North America. Long before the digital age. They might have more channels now. Channel 4 was their literal fourth channel.

Im almost sure my ancestors knew of this place. I traced my heritage back to Warwickshire, the Pettibones were the sword makers for the templars. You can still find swords with our family name on them. Came to America in 1700s at some point. Levi Pettibone was an explorer and map maker. His ancestors fought in every war since then,including myself....I love people's search in history.
