We've had our two alpaca girls since last spring. I think the previous owners said that they were around 5-7 years old. One of them had a baby boy last september. My question is why are they so afraid of us? They won't let you pet them! Maybe they weren't treated nice from the previous owners? I see videos of friendly alpacas and wonder why ours won't let you get close to them! So sad! Read more

Most alpacas are not real affectionate. They are not 'huggy' animals. They are aloof and interesting, but not real fond of petting unless they are bottle-fed. And even then just occasionally.
