I've got the little red and green "felt" pads around the base of the battery posts, and then sprayed the posts and wires with battery spray (it's kinda like an oily red spray paint). 2 years and no problems. Thanks so much for pointing out the ticking noise....I've got one. First time I changed the belt, I didn't know about changing the idler and tensioner. Over 160k now and doing some routine maintenance....

@@Xploring_The_Outdoors - I agree with the above. Those felt pads and the spray together works awe4som. I also use Vaseline when I don't have the spray.

My truck is identical even the color. My pulley squeals on cold and wet mornings or cold starts.

Mine does too, in this case I could hear a metallic ticking sound which was the bearing.

In my opinion I would wash off the top of the engine with gentle pressure before I start removing anything. Also blowing the inside of that air intake assembly helps also.Thanks again soon time to do mine.

Did you reuse both of the original bearing covers? The gates kit I got only had that bushing and when I use both the front and rear bearing covers and tighten it down it locks up.
@Xploring_The_Outdoors Жыл бұрын
My new one came with everything, I didn’t have to reuse anything

For anyone else that may run into this, there is a small line on the piece of paper that comes with the Gates tensioner kit that says if the OEM dust caps do not work you do not need to use them.

Thanks for the videos I had 2016 same concepts. So mine is squeaking so I need to replaced the belt only ? Mine is about almost 60k miles. Do I need to replaced all too or just the serpentine belt?
@Xploring_The_Outdoors2 жыл бұрын
Probably just the belt cheapest simplest thing first. Mine had a very pronounced metal ticking sound common with bearings going bad. I’d start with a belt for just a squeaking

According to the video title, part of this is changing out the tensioner and or pulley. All I see is the idler pulley replacement.
@Xploring_The_Outdoors2 ай бұрын
Maybe you should learn to watch the whole video at 8:27 I removed the tensioner. The beginning was the idler pulley. 🤦♂️
