Thank you so much for showing how to find the dimple on the crankshaft gear (around 18:50). I was losing my mind trying to find it until I watched your video!

THIS is why I gave up on fixing my own cars. If that was a rear wheel drive setup, I might do it. However, shouldn't you have removed the inner fender?

For me, i would wait till the oil pump is leak out ( my oil is leak out by timing belt timing area) then replace all of seal, gasket, timing belt. I just order water pump and timing belt...if the water pump still good by not leaking. I would just keep new water pump till the old pump is out. It save me money and time. It is up to you guys.

I have a 95 camry, and I STRONGLY RECOMMEND replacing the crankshaft drive gear and keyway when replacing timing belt, It is the gear right on front of crankshaft that drives the timing belt. Mine was making bad noise and that was it. The gear is $37 @Toyota> no one else had the gear
@thinbrickspec778 жыл бұрын
hey Roger quick question is the crankshaft drive gear pulley reverse threaded on there?
@pmotorsports82765 жыл бұрын
Is the crank bolt reverse thread?
@fj55dan10 жыл бұрын
What did you use to pry on to keep the crank from turning when you removed the crank pulley? It magically gets removed in your vid. On a 2000 automatic transmission there is no bottom inspection plate and the starter motor has a long bendix.
@fixingcarsandstuff10 жыл бұрын
Dan Spencer sorry I did not show that but I have air tools and use an impact gun which takes off the crank bolts pretty easily. They make strap wrenches that can hold it in place, check out Amazon and there are likely other options as well.

Good job! I only have one question how come you did not show how you took out the 10mm nut in the middle of the top cover?? I saw you were wiggling and struggling to pull the cover out and then you edited that part and next thing you were showing the the top cover out and showing the crank sensor on the cover and said you took out the 10mm out and took out the cover. How come you did not show how you took out the center nut from the top cover?? Thank You!

I have an issue trying to get the bottom pulley off, my pulleys only got two holes and they are up and down so I cant use the same puller as in video since mine are up and down, anyway I can spin the pulley and not damage anything?
@OneMoreTag7 жыл бұрын
I used 3 jaw puller on outside of pulley, from Auto Zone Loaner.

I know this was on the timing belt and I have replaced all of it. The car was running great for two days and I have a feeling it's the fuel pump. When you remove the seat shouldn't I be able to feel it kicking in????

Great video btw. Your camra work was as well great to. I'm doing a complete timing set on my mom's 2000 toyota camry. The belt is not broke & it has'nt jumped timing. I have a question though. Since the belt did'nt jump timing. Would i be able to just mark the cam shaft & crank shaft with white out & put on the rest of the part as they were. Without the belt broke if i out back the parts on the crank shaft & cam shaft the same as they were would that be alright? I'm replaceing the seals on the Crank & cam shaft as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@spaceghost89952 жыл бұрын
Why are you doing that? If the belt on that Toyota 4 cyl. breaks it will not harm your engine. Just leave it alone unless you have big leak or some other reason to be wrenching on it.

Not if you mark the timing belt and pulleys at the cam shaft pulley and Harmonic balancer pulley.

Can anyone confirm or deny (no guessing please) that the 5S-FE's 0 dwell mark on the crank pulley puts the crank at the exact same angle as the crank's cog alingment mark? IOW, are they interchangeable marks that can be used to get exact alignment between the crank and cam?

What is the length of the 14 mm medium deep socket to remove two 14 mm bolts in the bottom of the crank bracket? You said that is just "medium deep socket", but I want to know the coarse length of the medium deep socket.

its the mid length set sold by snap on, you can find the specs on there web site

How long do you think a original timing belt will last on a 1999 Camry. I have a 4cyl 226,000 miles and just curious if ever been changed before
@fixingcarsandstuff10 жыл бұрын
About 100,000 miles, I have to believe that it had been done at least once...
@ernesthin197510 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. No way a original belt would survive 226K without breaking. So I'm not going worry anymore. Thank you so much for the confirmation.

Ern H. I currently have 202k miles on my factory belt, still running. Going to change it out soon at least within 100k

I am trying to replace just the water pump on a 98 camry 2.2, do I need to remove the timing belt too or can I just do the pump?
@mongyaj8 жыл бұрын
+John Lee Have to remove the timing belt. On my celica 2.0L, I only remove the Timing belt and also replace the belt while in it... Cheap repair. But sold the car and got the 95 celica 1.8L, which has the water pump outside the timing area and not inside. Easier to deal with it if WP fail. 1.8L a easy fix engine. Glad I got it.
@alec14518 жыл бұрын
+mongyaj Thanks for the response, I finally got it done and realized the head gasket was bad too, so I sold it for about $800, I just didn't have the time to do that too, plus my HOA was bugging me to get a car out of my driveway, lol, thanks again

Is there anyway ,short of motor tear down,to be sure there is no engine damage on one of these cars when the belt breaks?
@RichardsMUP8 жыл бұрын
These engines are non-interference. Nothing should happen when the timing belt breaks.

@fixingcarsandstuff10 жыл бұрын
Ken Magdic Well I do the cam and crank seals as well on most every TB job for these, I would say 3 hours or so.
@rogerr96218 жыл бұрын
NO not reverse threaded. Slides on and off, there is a keyway that gets worn. Some old cars had a flat spot on the crank to keep the gear stable. Toyota uses a keyway at least this one , the only thing holding it on is the harmonic Balancer. Toyota has the gear $37
