My Gilbert kitchen clock is the most accurate wind-up clock I have. Thanks for the insight into a rare example.

Three things have to happen at the same time. All three ends have to be in the right positions. The heart-shaped cam must let the sensor finger drop into correctly positioned time wheel at the exact moment the stop pin comes around and hits against the lock. This can many times be accomplished by leaving the gear out that is closest to the outer edge of the the frame. You then time the remaining gears, then slip the final gear in by loosening the plate nuts just enough to spread them and sneak the last gar into position.

For anyone watching: MAKE OR BUY A LETDOWN TOOL. Letting down a maimspring with a key is like defusing a bomb; if you make ANY mistake, you'll only know after the explosion is over. (Hee hee, maimspring was a Fruedian slip. Good one, though.)

Maimspring, very appropriate! I now have one.

Need a new camera person. It was very difficult at times to see what part you were referring to, too much camera movement, and at times out of focus.

I am not a professional. I work on clocks despite the fact that I have essential tremor.

@@markl.bardenwerpersr.7925 Hee hee, your tremor isn't the problem: your camera person ("there isn't really a snail in there") doesn't follow what you're talking about with the camera.

Aahh yes, I remember my father asking me to hold the flashlight, and his annoyance when my attention wandered. (You really should get an unwinding tool before you break a finger, though. I use a 4-jaw pin vise.)
