John Chandler somehow managed to out-crazy Jack Cassidy in this episode, which was almost impossible to do. I loved how Greenleaf even seemed uncomfortable talking to Kane in the beginning and couldn't wait to get away from him just because of how totally batshit crazy the guy was.

Jack Cassidy, one of the great actors who appeared in Columbo. Just watched another episode with Jack the other night, Murder by the Book, another good one. Part of the success of this great programme was due to the brilliant actors who appeared. Oh, and one more thing, the Great Peter Falk of course 😏

This is a coincidental pre-cursor to what he did on the night of his own death in December 1976. Then he had consumed alcohol at various bars across West Hollywod before returning to his apartment, drunk. Tragically he lit a cigarette then fell asleep. The cigarette started a fire in which he was killed

I don't know exactly but I would imagine that 1970s property values for houses in the (San Fernando) Valley, especially compared with those in Hollywood or LA, were much cheaper, So, when people from Hollywood or LA would visit a city or town in "the Valley", they might make belittling comments about it. You get the same dynamic between residents of NYC and New Jersey, in about the same time period. Of course, today, living in any of these places is quite expensive.@@javiergilvidal1558

Jack Cassidy had so much talent. Sadly, I don't think him playing a drunk was much of a stretch. David also had tremendous talent. I don't think Shaun and Patrick Cassidy had or have any addiction to alcohol. Sadly, my older sister died suddenly indirectly from alcoholism. Air conditioning was not working on a hot summer night. The guy wanted to enjoy a nice air dfraft. That´s explained later on by Columbo himself. Had the door been closed, Eddie would have been unable to get in since, unbeknownst to Greenleaf, the victim had had the lock changed, and Greenleaf´s key would not have worked.
