I'm surprised the starting pistol isn't linked to the starting blocks. Using sound waves seems a little inaccurate for the modern age. Also, how do you get times for the other athletes when they arrive in a cluster?

How are the pistol and the cameras synced?

The pistol trigger is synced with the speakers at the start. The pistol doesn't actually fire a shot.
