It's very much adaptable, the problem is most audiences nowadays wouldn't be into it because it doesn't follow the typical anime tropes that majority of Shonen-esque anime has nowadays

@@cyborgchicken3502yeah, the effort and money that would be put into production and promotion wouldn’t make any payback. People like artsy stuff, like lain made a huge comeback recently. But lain also wasn’t super detailed and stylized like blame. It’s a real shame.

it isn´t undaptable. it is just too costy for studios. you need to hire actual architects and put them to animate. you need to find actual engineers and put them to animate. you need the best animators in the industry. and most important of all: you need perfect art direction. you can see how most of this tasks have already been failed in the awful 3d adaptation. being it a nonsensical mashing up of elements of the story, turning it into a bland tasteless piece. you may think, yeah you don't need architects nor enginneers to make this. and to an extent you are right. animation doesn't need to be realistic. But, BLAME deserves it.
