@@timmyhasheart yeah definitely but i was more on about engine bay heat soak on top mount vs heat soak of a front mount.. Low range also being more fan reliance over say hwy driving (greater air flow). So basically my thought process in short for going a fmic was just better for the motor overall. More kms driven at lower intake temps. Also like you mentioned to access and serviceability. Another reason more myself and maybe other at kit level. The front mount i got was cheaper than the big top mounts lol. Still would of prefered custom just didn't have the means or time.

Just finished a front mount in my 04 ute . Im handy with welding aluminum but stainless takes more prep and ya have to purge the inside which i didn`t know . its just ok but it was surprisingly cheaper than aluminum , i bought 90s and 45s and 1200mm of straight so i have minimum silicon on it . Went 450 wide to get more flow to the radiator for what its worth . Whole thing owes me 600 bucks and works .

Top mount and front mount will usually cool air the same. But a top mount will heat soak after running for a long time which will reduce the cooling efficiency. Front mounts do not have this problem. Just means it’s more consistent with its cooling.

Thanks for the comment mate! I do understand your opinion and anecdotally I actually agree, but as I said in my video until I’ve got actual quantifiable data to share with my thoughts I won’t tell people what they should run it’s an argument that I just don’t care about I see it on all kinds of patrol forums of people just saying what they think, when they’re a chippy by trade for example 😂 run what you want & let people run what they want & leave the temp assumptions to the thermometers 🔥

I would have preferred a top mount on my GU in general so as to take heat load off the radiator from a comparable front mount. However didn’t have space for top mount due to fitting a taller engine. I’m with the author of the video here, there are pros and cons with either arrangement so just go with what’s most appropriate for your setup and needs. No point arguing one is better than the other.
@kylefreiberg

@@andrewly6954 I am not disagreeing. I agree that do whatever suits your setup/needs. I was just giving some info on really the only difference in performance between the two. It will be measurable, but over a long drive. And to most people’s needs, it is negligible.

Looks tidy. Are you planning on running a gauge for intake air temp? They’re not really essential but are interesting to see how it performs in all different temperature situations. Also what do you think of the argument that the air coming in through the bonnet for a top mount creates positive air pressure under the bonnet reducing the airflow across the radiator? I’m sure your setup will work sweet. An update at some stage would be good. Keep up the good work.
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 11 ай бұрын
Question number 1 I actually do run a “boost temp” gauge in the GQ, so not intake air but actual boosted air temp, just because I had a spare port and a spare read on my RedArc gauge so I thought why not, and you’re right it is super interesting to see. As for the positive air pressure thing absolutely no idea, never heard it before but yeah if it starts getting hot then maybe it’s something I’ll look into, or if I find an old petrol bonnet maybe I’ll offer some cash but yeah not too concerned at this stage, thanks mate! 👍🏻

Hey mate na that’s a fair question so the fan I removed wasn’t the actual thermo fan for the cars cooling it was just a little fan on the aircon condenser that’s used to help with getting your aircon colder in simple terms, but they run just fine without it, the GQ has no air con so the GU with aircon without a fan will be solid 🫡 as mentioned in the video it’s done all the time 👍🏻

Why not grab a UFI 18 or 16 off marketplace to replace the ht18 while you’re there? 24psi through the ht18 is way outside its efficiency. And it won’t spool as well at low rpm either. Was a new style UFI 18g on marketplace in melb yesterday for $650
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 11 ай бұрын
So a couple of reasons: 1. First and foremost I don’t have unlimited money, I’m same as anyone I’ll do it bit by bit as it’s needed, the turbo is working and the next restriction in the system was EGTs. 2. Most people run HT18’s with the stock top mount or a hot pipe, and this one has been running at 22psi for the last couple of years happily with EGTs getting to 500 and hitting a brick wall, and in my GQ my HT18 ran 20psi for years also and put up with it, however now I’ve no doubt I can poke a bit of fuel in the GU and get that to 24, I might even do a video on it/tuning it. 3. Unless you’re an airflow dynamics engineer I don’t really subscribe to “agreed things online” people tend to hear and repeat phrases they hear without actually understanding what they’re repeating and all I know is in my time using HT18’s and tuning with them, they’re actually quite resilient and stand up to a lot more than the 16psi people say they can take. It’ll get upgraded eventually but yeah, for now I actually don’t mind em 🤷🏻‍♂️

Surprised you didn’t go top mount. That big bullbar and winch would be blocking a lot of airflow to the front mount
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 10 ай бұрын
Honestly it’s negligible, it’s definitely an issue on the GQ, having 2 big ox motors in front of everything, but yeah definitely does more good being there than the little factory top mount, and I’d never personally go a top mount, not a fan of cutting a big hole in the centre of my bonnet and not a fan of moving it constantly to do jobs 👍🏻

@@brentmcd12honestly I wanted 2.5” outlets for the ease of not running reducers down behind the headlights and the 250 was the only one I could find with 2.5” outlets. It worked out in our favour though cause if the outlets were 50mm lower it would have been harder to enter the engine bay 👍🏻

I went same way, said no to the overpriced kits. DIY to fit a 600x300x75 eBay job in front that works like nothing else. Front grill gone, IC sits up just under the bonnet edge. IC doesn't go near chassis rails or the front factory winch bar crumple zones. Take the PS cooler off and rotate 180° which puts it back and the IC in front. I have not seen a single TMIC beat a FMIC. I don't do the mud caking, do a shit load of Kays and the TMIC lovers keep eating hot intake air.

I don’t really support TMIC either, but have definitely seen data that shows some configurations being as efficient as FMIC
