I grew up without much money on a dirt road in Texas. But I saw the Smokey &TB movie when I was a kid and was equally obsessed. Although my parents were strict and we didn't have much, I somehow convinced them to let me spend my own life savings on an old (late 80s at the time) 1977 Trans Am. It was my dream car. The engine blew up literally the first night I drove it, but my dad helped me swap a junkyard 455 ("great" idea for a 16 year old kid to drive, right?!?). I drove it like a Duke boy, often power sliding around corners on the dusty dirt roads of Texas (not condoning that behavior, but I will say it was a blast). Still my favorite car I ever had by a mile.

I remember my folks taking me and my brother to see this in the theater in 1977. I was nine. It was the first real "adult" action movie they let me watch, and I just sat on the edge of my seat, saucer-eyed, for the entire show. My dad was a truck driver, and I was totally into trucks, and cars, so this movie pretty much checked all the boxes for me. Good memories.

Same here. My dad wasn't a truck driver, but I fell in ❤with that Trans Am when it first appeared. I asked my dad if we could buy one, and he looked at me in shock and said, "No! Have you got any idea how EXPENSIVE they are?" Then I asked my dad if we could get a CB radio, and he said "No, those are only toys for adults." Dad worked hard to keep the wolf from the door and was very conservative, since he grew up during the Great Depression and WW2, and I was too young and silly to appreciate that. But I loved the movie anyway. Jackie Gleason was too funny as Sheriff Buford T. Justice. 😆

I love Jackie Gleason in this movie. He did practically whole thing ad lib. The stuff he made up as he went along was way better than the original script, so the director, just let him go with it.

They could have replaced everyone but Jackie and the movie would have been a hit.

I remember reading somewhere that one of his conditions for playing Sheriff Justice was he got to ad lib as much as he wanted. Hal Needham wasn't about to tell him no.
@TowMater6036 жыл бұрын
Ad Lib ? what's Ad Lib ?
@RPMX46 жыл бұрын
Simply means he's winging it as they are filming, and saying what he wants as he goes along, instead of what the script says for his character to say. Improvised on the spot basically. The sign of a great actor. The official definition of "ad-lib" = speak or perform in public without previously preparing one's words

When the Bandit hides by the bank then smiles and looks at the camera is still one of the most unexpected and hilarious scenes in movie history... over the last 45 years I've watched it hundreds of times and I still crack up every time... EVERY time

The way Burt gets into that Trans Am, the way he drives it. You KNOW that he and that car are one. Burt really sells it as a talented Cannonball Run driver!

"Honey Hush" was NOT in the script. 100% improvised moment from Jerry. There was a whole lot of improvising going on in this movie! It will remain a classic forever! RIP to them all 😥

It is approved for a maximum temperature of 530 degrees Fahrenheit, although it is not recommended for baking. Do not put pewter in a microwave oven. Due to pewter's ability to retain heat and cold, foods served in this product will maintain their temperature. It can be used for any type of food, including salads.

@@jstntlvr at least this movie is still fun to watch while doing so. Most movies nowadays are very preachy with their political views and statements and paint the other side (left or right) as the bad guys.
