Missed you Steve. With regards to the visa situation, the retirees are always getting a raw deal, yet they are there year after year contributing to the Thai economy.

1800 baht for a renewal? What’s the problem? It’s one of the cheapest retirements in the world. And consistent, if more recently rigidly enforced regarding the qualifications.

The 800,000 Thai baht in the bank is irksome. I refuse to do the marriage visa due to invasion of privacy and taking pictures. When Big Joke questioned the authenticity of income as we stated on our proof of income letter from our English speaking embassies, that is, Australia, United Kingdom and United States we had to use either monthly income or money in the bank. That happened back in 2018 and 2019.

@@terrycolvin775 That annoyed me/many of us for sure, but couldn't argue as I knew a few expats who were taking the piss with their fraudulent income figures knowing it wasn't verified. That's been the case with a lot of the Big Joke type crackdowns in the past. Majority suffers for the sins of the minority. Lumped it and began using the 800k method, which wasn't too bad given the bank interest rates were alright at that time, but have gone in the toilet with the rest of the world since then. Reckon we could join the club and use a dodgy visa agent? Meh, probably not. :-/

Quick note on METHANOL related to distillation: Every raw fermented batch DOES contain more or less amount of METHANOL. That is the first liquid which is leaving the distiller at around 65C. It have a pungent smell, also it bites the copper tubing a bit so it will became greenish in color. If you run a batch of 50kgs raw, you will end up receiving 1-5cc of methanol at the begining. This is why you REMOVE the first 100-200cc from every batch and treat it as poison. Use for cleaning or just throw away. If You do not know this, and mix the whole distillation end products together, you will have a highly diluted mix of methanol, which in smaller QTYs will cause some nasty headache but probably nothing more. If You are unlucky, and they remove the first few liters of the distillation and giving it away separately, the percentage will be a lot higher and will lead to blindness or even death. This is one reason why not everyone is allowed to do this at home. Not only the alcohol tax collected, but also the dangers related to plain human ignorance and negligence. If you are not cheap to throw out the first 1dl of liquid, you are safe already. (I am from Hungary where there is a long tradition of distilling Your liquid at home, recently it is even legal to do so)

I interviewed Tiger on Phuket when he was 19. He didn't want to be there (he dislikes Thailand) and he was entitled and rude. He insulted me in front of a room full of people. I will admit that I have taken some small selfish satisfaction from watching the dismal end to his golf career.

I landed in "Masterclass" after just two weeks of my first Thailand visit to Bangkok and Pattaya! Because I did my homework on YT by reading 2 books in preparation. Tim, Malaysia was my first SE country I lived in and it was the first country I noticed where people used spoons for cutting / dividing their food. I think common folks in Laos & Myanmar use spoons also for cutting.

I used the E+visa site to get my initial 90 day non-O Retirement visa. It took 16 days to be approved. So one two weeks would be normal. I was physically in the US. I have no idea where it was looked at. There were two types pending status listed: Document Review; and Waiting for Approval. Most of the 16 days was in the latter.
