I’m not going to pretend that I’ve seen every KZbin video. But I’ve never seen one that tests theory, regarding the impact of different triggers. I am new to the sport and found your video fascinating. Well done bud.

I have a simple timney Calvin Elite in my R700 and it neve crossed my mind that a trigger could cause some deviations. I use my rifle for simple steel shooting and am learning the finer details as this video and MLR is showing. amazing.

Good video. I’ve never considered the trigger being a cause of I increased SD/ES. Interesting!!

Awesome test. From my experience, I've seen Timney triggers especially the HIT cause firepin drag and or failures in multiple actions in our rifle builds as well frozen set hang fire with a fellow we've built a 6.5 PRC in ND (extremely dangerous). IMO the hit has a better feel than the TriggerTech. For your rifle, its working great!
@midwest_long_range2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. With this test you really need a larger sample set of triggers for accurate data collection. Probably 10 of each trigger would give a more honest set of data points but I can’t afford that many triggers lol. I appreciate you checking it out.

Maybe I missed something, but how is a trigger going to effect either your standard deviation or extreme spread? Firing pin drag? But that seems like it would be minimal, as seems to me that velocities would be barely effected by small amounts of drag , of course if the drag wasn’t crazy heavy…. But just guessing where ur coming from on this test

Some High-end actions that use trigger mounting blocks offers those blocks with different mounting hole offsets to increase or decrease the amount of firing pin spring compression. Different triggers will probably have variations in the mounting pin hole to sear surface dimension which you could check with the proper inspection procedure before installing trigger on action
@johnplummer16192 жыл бұрын
To me weak strikes are a problem in the action " firing pin "
@redrooster5272 жыл бұрын
This method test if there is any drag between the sear of the trigger and cocking piece of the firing pin. So it would be directly related

Sounds to me like The Hit works as well as the Diamond. I love mine.
@garrytalley800910 ай бұрын
There never was a chance the triggers would make a difference. The bolt contains the firing pin and the spring that hammers the primer. The trigger only releases the spring in the bolt to fire with the firing pin. It will constantly be the same with any trigger. It's really a no brainer if one just thinks mechanically.

Every time you sample a distribution you get an estimate of the true mean and an estimate of the true variance. The ratio of 2 variances (variance is the square of the st dev) is different when the ratio exceeds the f statistic. 8 square over 6 squared (64/36) is 1.78. To declare two variances different with a 5% threshold for being wrong with 9 df for each variance (10 tries each) the f statistic you need to exceed is 3.18. At 10% error it 2.44. I guess 11 vs 6 would pass this test but once you make multiple comparisons its a slightly different ball game and I did not want to run a true analysis of variance. 11 vs 8 would be less than 2 as well. I cannot say there is no difference, but this is not enough evidence to say they are different with confidence. Good test though, and good video.

This is honestly one of the 1st times I've actually seen someone test some of these theories that's always being thrown around on the internet and it was extremely interesting to watch. I've heard and read about this before but not about rimfire 22lr it was being discussed about center fired rifles. I don't really shoot rimfire stuff often and I know the quality of ammo has come a long ways over the years to being some pretty good stuff but I still don't think it's to the point you'll ever see a noticeable significant difference between what trigger you're using. I would think you could do this a dozen times over swapping between triggers and get different results that's just the nature of rimfire... or at least to my knowledge of the ammo but again I don't really do the rimfire stuff. Now for the center fired rifle ammo I could never get my mind wrapped around where they come up with that either but I've also never swapped triggers in a gun to check it and I don't plan on doing it especially after all the load development I've done to get my guns shooting the way they do. That said now if I ever want to try a new trigger I'll have to keep track of my notes I have on that gun and ammo to check just out of curiosity. Good stuff and great video brother keepem coming!!!

Yeah.. I had a feeling before watching that a trigger wasn't going to effect ammo SD and ES. Just doesn't add up
@user-un5my5bw4j Жыл бұрын
Only way you would have your standard deviation and extreme spread affected from the trigger is if the sear on the triggers is not exactly ground the same causing the cocking peice and pin pulled back more on one than the other. I shoot 1000yd benchrest and i use jewell that I tear apart and super tune myself one I get them. They are breaking at 1ounce. See what happens and remember to keep cleaning your barrel. Should have started with a clean barrel each test

Its your firing spring in the bolt. not the trigger

Nothing like a $5,000 .22 rifle to tell the world how important you think you are. I just tried to learn to shoot what i can afford instead of throwing money at my lack of skill.
@redrooster5272 жыл бұрын
hey Sog, explain to me how learning to shoot what you have involves being a keyboard commando? The video was about testing ignition timing with different triggers, nothing to do with guys comparing what they've spent or can afford on their rifles. Watch the video or don't, get over YOURSELF and keep learning to shoot what you got.

@@redrooster527 oh no.i woke the rooster. My whole point is,if you can shoot groups, like shown in the video, with my $175 marlin 25, why would you care about ignition timing from a $300-$400 trigger?
@redrooster5272 жыл бұрын
@sog So obviously this video wasn't pointed at your interest, which is the point I'm making. Just because the video content wasn't pointed at you, you somehow think it gives you the right show your butt by making irrelevant comments about how hes supposedly "telling the world how important he is" when now your the one making it about yourself and how you lack the understanding for the video. Go troll somewhere else and keep shooting that marlin that shoots groups like a vudoo with an ignition problem.

It would be expensive to do but to really get better numbers try multiple lots of Lapua Xact and Eley top of the line.
@pauloftarsus3843 Жыл бұрын
This trigger test does not make any sense. Bullet speed at the muzzle is affected by how clean the barrel is between shots, what the weight of the bullet is on every shot, and what the charge weight and energy content is of every load. You can not assume every shot has all the same numbers then blame any difference on the nebulous effect of the trigger type or pull weight. No way.
