This could have been major step for Franziska to step out of Bolls und Dimas shadow to gain a unknown confidence to get further in future events. His Back and Forehand Topspins are superb rockets, footwork and returns are great, and he showed until this match consistency. But he needs improvement in terms of mentally toughness and gameplay variations to be on Bolls level. Boll was even not on the top on his game cause of a major break in june , but he managed to get in to franziskas head in every set he leads. I really wish Franziska improves for the sake of european players against the chinese power for olympia

Wieder mal sehr stark gespielt am Ende hapert es an der mentalen Stärke von Patrick. Wenn er die besser wird behaupte ich das er auch gegen Timo gewinnt der schon gezeigt hat welch eine Großartige Mentale Stärke er hat z. B. beim World Cup wo er 4:10 gegen Lin Gaoyuan im Decider zurückliegt und dann noch sensationell gewinnt.

I think these shakings cannot be controlled. But it shows that you feel anxious somehow. You have to be calm and focus to win the 7th set of a match. So when i saw he was shaking like that, i thought that he was thinking about the scenario, about what the end of the match could be, instead of playing it no matter what happens. You have to fully commit, and then see who is the winner. Easy to say........

No, no possibilities of that. They would make the score be 1:4 or 2:4 to look more believable. Also too many nets and edges. Also they NEVER would do that - it's just not what they do.

Franziska lost his imagination, nearly always put the ball same place square to Boll's backhand near the end. Franziska if smarter, would've kept the momentum and won, I feel. But with the ball given to his square backhand, Boll didn't have to make any adjustments. Boll's reflex backhand block is impressive but what is more impressive if given a fraction of a second more, that same block now becomes a short counterloop that surprises his opponent.

It is quite disturbing that so many new generations can't match with boll's skills. Except liam pitchford and hugo calderano (which is i know a non european player) i don't see any charismatic leader for the future of non asian table tennis ( kallberg, franziska and gauzy are really talented, but not consistent, and regular enough) to replace boll and samsonov against the chinese).
