That brings to mind one time when our male cat was out on the porch watching birds (vogals). I was asking him if he saw the birdies. I've told him often that the birdies think Doogie is one handsome boy. He was commenting back at me and while I was listening to him, I caught a squirrel trying to get into the squirrel proof bird feeder. It was right outside at the corner of the porch, about 2 feet away from where he usually sits to watch everything outside. So while Doogie was looking at and listening to me, he didn't understand that I wanted him to look at the squirrel just right outside the porch. That squirrel was doing somersaults and anything it could do to get into the bird feeder. It would have been so neat to see his reaction to the squirrels, but he was too busy listening to me talk to him that he completely missed it. A couple of times we had my mother-in-law stay at the house to watch the cats while we were gone for the week-end. She noticed one of our cats intently watching a squirrel's shadow movement on the shade in our bedroom. She caught it perfectly in a picture. You could tell what our cat is looking at by the shape of the squirrel's shadow. With the same cat, she noticed the same cat intently watching a squirrel sitting and moving up and down the tree that was outside the window. She caught a picture of that also. At one time, our enclosed porch had a white rather transparent roof on it. The squirrels would jump from our garage roof onto that roof, and the cats would watch that wild activity just over their heads. Dolly, our ragdoll kitty would watch everything from the back porch and when a bird would fly away toward the front of the house, Dolly would run from the porch toward the side of the house trying to catch the bird, which of course she couldn't. I love hearing the cats make their own chirping sound as they watch the birds. Every single cat in existence does that and it's so neat to hear. It's part of their hunting instinct they're born with.
