Thank you for explaining the impasto types. I had a tube of impasto water mixable but was not sure how to use it when I started painting wmo years ago. I mostly look at your videos for tips as I am starting to paint with them a second time and did not fully understand all the nuisances of wmo after painting in traditional oils many year ago. Also the scrubbing on of oil before painting. Will keep checking yours video for more tips . I’m not scenery painter. Wild life photographer and painter. Appreciate tips also on brushes and better water cleaning practices for the brushes.

I was forced to use a limited palette in school, not because of my teachers but because I didn’t have a lot of money for art supplies. It’s a good practice to really understand how you mix to a color. It was horrible at the time, but served me well down the road.

Thank you! I teach color theory, and my background is painting and also graphic design. I take more the stance of commercial printing which uses Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. It keeps intensity of mixing two primaries up until you start adding the third primary (which adding compliments do).

Hi Tim! I found your videos through recommendation of Brooke Cormier and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the time and energy and dedication you’ve put into helping others. I am an acrylic painter who has been longing to try oils for years, but the idea of unhealthy fumes has stopped me, so I am delighted to learn about the water mixable oils and will be picking some up. Do you have any recommendation as to how to dispose of the paper towels with the oil paint on them? I am pretty paranoid about having a house fire, so I was thinking of laying them out to dry but wasn’t sure if that’s even necessary because no turps are used in the process? Any who, thanks again for your terrific videos and I will be binge watching them all! 😊 Cheers from Maine ~Rachel

Hi Rachel… As far as I know the paints themselves and the oil mediums are not a real combustion hazard. I just throw the paper towels in the garbage and have done so for 30 years. The potential hazard from traditional oils comes from the solvents that are used to thin the paints and to clean up. We don’t use solvents with the water soluble oils👍

Every now and then I will wash all my brushes in shampoo and use conditioner the same type as I use on my own hair. This makes sense as using shampoo to clean your hair means it's being cleaned with a proper solvent and the conditioner does what it says on the pack, makes the hair of your brush feel good and behave better. It's also easier to get them back into shape that way and they last longer

Hi Tim, what is the "water mixable oil" product you apply to the canvas at timestamp 11:30?
@timpackerfinearts4 жыл бұрын
Tomas Taylor that would be the water soluble linseed oil or painting medium. My favourite is the one by Holbein ...

I would love to try the Impasto medium so my paint does not take forever to dry. I'm from Canada and I've been searching for the Impasto Artisan medium in Canada and can't seem to find it. Do you buy yours in Canada or order online from outside Canada? If you buy from a store in Canada can you please let me know which store. Thanks.

QUESTION: What is the palette on the right that you keep dabbing on? Looks like you're cleaning off your brush a bit on paper towel??
@timpackerfinearts8 жыл бұрын
Yes it is paper towels that I have taped down to wipe off excess paint and dry the brush

Hi Tim Great video...I was wondering what Luminous colours you would recommend?... Luminous orange, green, opera red, lemon, violet

It depends on what colours you like to use🎨🤔

So, do you avoid worrying about fat over lean by avoiding multiple layers?
@timpackerfinearts5 жыл бұрын
marcel goulard it’s not really an issue since I am not diluting the paints with solvent making them lean... or adding oil to make them fat. I use them pretty much straight out of the tube... other than using an impasto medium for thick applications... which I typically do at the start of the painting
