Your video appeared in my list today (24 September 2019) . I hope everything has continued to get better for you and your partner and that I didn't miss your wedding! (I subscribed, so maybe a wedding video will pop up soon.) Family is important but the one you choose to give your heart to has priority. You rock! Love from Luxembourg. ❤😘

Tim, you are definitely a better man than I. I would have totally cut them out of my life. There would have been no reason to ever go 'home'. I've lived in plenty of places that have become 'home', and I never felt the need to come back. They are both gone, and never found out about me. I do, however, live here 'home' for other reasons.

An awesome video. You are GORGEOUS. Your partner is a very lucky guy. Here in England, gay people can get married and have the same rights as anyone else. Sadly, my parents are very homophobic and I can't come out. I know I'd lose them if I did. I envy your inner strength. Happy New Year xx
@Timpdriver9 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve, I hope it was helpful in some way for you. In regards to your parents, sometimes they can be very surprising, but don't come out if it's going to make you unsafe. More often than not, parents aren't monsters, even when they are very homophobic, and it just might be that when you are eventually able to come out to them, it will help them change their minds. But if you're not ready, and they're not ready, then you definitely need to wait. I know it's hard, and so much harder when you have to worry about being caught, and lying to them, but your safety HAS to come first. I hope you and your parents can get to the point in your lives where you coming out is something you're not only able to do, but something that you don't need to be "brave" to do. It can just "be". Good luck and Happy New Year to you too! xx

what an awfully ambivalent experience, but good that it was recently reduced. it would never have been an issue with my mum, but dad was very homophobic my whole childhood which would've impacted me somewhat. luckily he's obviously changed his attitude pretty completely, but because of the earlier times i don't feel comfortable about it with him. it doesn't bother me much though, though I'm not sure whether it's because it just doesn't or because of other significant anxieties I have. the world's obviously gradually changing though and I just can't wait to see the next ~5% drop in religiosity in the census...

***** Finding that comfort takes a long time. I mean, I came out to my parents almost seven years ago now, and it really took about four years to repair things. It was VERY tense for a while. It just takes time. Dan Savage says this thing, which I think about sometimes. For all the time that I knew, I was processing the idea, and dealing with it in my own way. I had to reconcile who I was, and establish in my own mind who I was. My parents continued operating for all those years under the (admittedly ludicrous) idea that I was straight for the entire time that I was at first rejecting and then finally accepting myself. When I came out, I'd had YEARS of thinking to deal with it, and they'd had literally zero time. Allowing your parents SOME time to work it out is actually okay, particularly if they've come from a really homophobic place first. What you can't do is allow your parents forever. At some point they have to come to the party, or you can't be in a functional relationship with them. I gave my parents probably longer than I should have, but we got there in the end. Xx

These stories really cut me to the core. People are so SELFISH...coming out is NEVER about anyone else, not parents, no siblings, NO ONE!!! It’s OUR thing, and NOBODY should take it from us!!! I was raised Buddhist and many people say it’s not a religion...but I was raised to be kind, accepting, nonjudgmental, charitable, loving, and hospitable...ALL the tenets of Jesus Christ. My family has been nothing but loving to their gay son/nephew/uncle/grandson, and I’ve always been welcomed into our church...yet many of those individuals who are FOLLOWERS of Jesus Christ exemplify NONE of these tenets, and have the audacity to say my religion isn’t a religion at all. So often, I hear these coming out stories and the parents who are most Christian and Catholic are the most hateful, unaccepting, judgmental, and close minded people around...and I can’t help but think that Jesus Christ would be ashamed of them! This is how MY mom reacted...and keep in mind, I’m almost 50 years old, so I came out to my mom back in 1997 and she was so progressive that these were the questions she asked me (“my answers”) • oh, so Ken’s not just your friend, he’s your boyfriend? “Yes” • so who’s top and who’s bottom? “It depends, we switch it up” • so does it hurt when you bottom? I’ve always wondered! “It shouldn’t if you do it right/slow” (as we were both smiling/laughing) I’m glad that they FINALLY came around and that they’re in your life again...you deserve that and they owe it to you, just as you owe it to them to be in their lives. If we all stopped to think about the other person’s feelings just a little more often, this world would be a much better place! 😍🏳️🌈🤙🏽

You come first. It is essential for every Gay person to learn to take care of himself or herself and to put yourself first. We spend our childhood and adolescence living in a foreign realm and suppress our own identity formation and reality in deference to straight people. The instant we can break free of that, we should. Life on our own terms, not theirs. It is essential to our mental, emotional and physical health. Put yourself first as a Gay man. They will respect you more if you do, and you will feel a lot better about yourself too.

Just so you wouldn’t know you don’t have to be married order to be with somebody take this from experience I never was married I probably will never will be married at all even if you do God will have to honor the contract either way but whatever you do just please your family still be yourself and your sub can be gay if you like never many people is going to except it it doesn’t mean that I’m very respect you but me I got your back which means that I support you for you and that is very much important Your parents does not have to except it everything about you but if they’re going to except you as her son then they should always respect your decisions in life that’s one thing that they will respect don’t judge your parents always in the same token you can be judged by the same measure you have judged so don’t be so hard on yourself or them And I will not judge you for being you bob be encouraged by this message

If YoUre Happy, I’m glad for you. But coming out of the closet really brought me nothing. Sure, my family was accepting, and that’s certainly great. But I couldn’t be anything, I Couldn’t Pursue my dream of being a History Teacher. I found history compelling, which I could share. But it was legal to fire gay people. Life killed my dream, And now it’s too late to be that young history teach I dreamed of in 1984. It never got better.

What for? For being obviously a grounded, articulate, sweet and decent person full of love, in a world filled with so much hate? You need to seriously reevaluate your priorities around what is good and bad, right and wrong, and decent.
