One thing I appreciate about your reviews is your reference sheet. You mention a lot of the same tracks and that helps me understand the comparisons. I can listen to the same tracks at the same times and hear WHERE you hear it. It means more than “cymbals are tizzy “ because some tracks are mixed tizzy or sibilant. Thank you for that.

No other reviewer I'm aware of is nearly as structured and methodical as Chris. I have a similar library so it really helps me a lot.
@juanblanco78988 ай бұрын
Exactly! It's not useful to me personally for a couple of reasons, but I appreciate it very much. That's a lot of work, thought and attention and it can be much more helpful than generalized descriptions with little or no context at all. Chris has carved a nique niche for himself in this scene and is irreplacible without exaggeration. Also oftentimes quite funny in a subtle way.

graphs are fascinating. i used to think it was odd that reviews on japans largest earphone and headphone store used graphs based on how the reviewer or staff member heard it instead of a measured graph. but after seeing your video on frequency graphs it makes a lot more sense.

the one thing i love about BGGAR is the fact that he uses songs that I can relate to, some reviewers only use these high brow songs that i would never listen to, but when you talk AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Big Boy, etc. now you are talking my language.

As usual, an excellent vid. Here's Timsock proving your point that graphs can only show you so much, and ultimately it's your ears that count.

Oh that's a nice looking set! Also, one thing that I really love about your review is that you're using the sheet, the same tracks, showing the specific part of the track so that we know for certain on what you're talking about. Repeatability is the key to good science, and you sir are a scientist at heart. Cheers!

1st time I've heard of Timsok, is it a new brand? Certainly seems as good as it should be at that price, although you mentioned the bass is a little weak. But probably not worth 5x as much as the other DD sets out there.

The way you review iems really helps to pay a picture how they will sound because you describe what the set is capable of. Makes it so easy to either put them on the list or skip them. Also the time you take to explain things like frequency response graphs really helped me to get deeper into the hobby. Saw a review of this Timsok somewhere else before and although the DD in them is probably of a very high quality and should be worth the price but $150 for a single DD is for me just too highly priced. Rather go for a multidriver iem although the Timsok seem to be worth their price. Thanks for the vid.

My theory with that set's bass is that the lower treble elevation is stating up against the bass, which at the same time is getting the pressure slam a notch down since this isn't a huge driver moving a ton of air

I really like the TS-316. It gives me a hint of what some the endgame IEMs are doing without that much of a diminishing returns effect. I know you briefly mentioned it, but the cable is the biggest weakness of this set imo. I hope Timsok will consider a different one in the future.

PSA: If you'd like to test your own hardware the way Chris HBB tests his review units, he's linked a copy of the "featured review tracks" chart in the description of this video. To Chris - I enjoyed the video. I think I'd enjoy these too. I'm the right age of millennial to have gotten hugely influenced from the late '90s and early 2000s wave of '70s nostalgia. I still keep a large amount of classic rock in my playlist as a result. If it sounds good then who cares how old a song is? So, these would be perfect for me. I can't justify dropping $500 on them though; because while I may have Toyota Crown tastes I'm currently on a Daihatsu budget. But; if I won them I know I'd love them, keep them, and actually use them often.

So many reviewers don’t understand the music they use to test equipment. My earphones should sound gritty when playing Tony Iommi’s riffs, they should sound smooth when playing Berlin Philharmonic’s Beethoven Symphonies. I value differences in interpretation on sound reproduction but don’t change the nature of the music. You get this point and that’s why I always check here first for perspective!

@khanartist198 ай бұрын
Thank you for all the great reviews! This may not the kind of music in your library but it's been hard for me to understand what IEMs are best for jazz and jazz fusion music. Do you have recommendations for IEMs that would be suited for this genre? I'm looking for something that has an uncolored, neutral sound with good soundstage and separation of instruments along with natural timbre and tonality. I'm looking for an IEM for $300 or less.

Probably with a little power from dac-amp it would sound closer to the graph. I've noticed that the most sets that use higher quality drivers usually need a little more power than the sets that use poorer quality drivers. IMHO

What do you think needs to happen to justify high prices on single DD sets? Crin's new collab shows that you can add a resonator without adding much to the price, so is there some tech or materials that can provide better sound and really justify the price?
