My experience with the Rooivalk is to climb about 2km at sit around 9,5km from the match , you outrange most radar missiles and your missles , IMO, seem to gain more speed when they diving due to its height coming down. I've watched 2s6's lock me but just stare at me because their misslies couldnt actually get me XD

@@fuahrahn The maximum range of the ZT6 missile is 10km same as 2s6 , however at lower altitudes the guaranteed hit range is around 8.5km.

I'd like to point out, not that id expect you to know, but the rooivalk wasn't available to purchase on playstation until this update, meaning we physically couldn't use it in the update it was added in. we couldn't even test drive it, it just didn't appear anywhere in the tree or in the premiums section

You should try Swedish Havoc. This heli banks pretty heavily. Rooivalk is nothing comparing to that.

This is one of those helis that is supposed to be played in specific manner that is opposite of what you showcased so far as hardpoint weaponry is mounted in such way that any attempts to gets close to targets, like

I've gotten great results with this thing but I have a few advantages over average players in regards to SA. I have a full hotas setup and pedals. I use full real controls and constantly steer the helicopter even while using the shooter view. I'm on the move all the time and circling the battlefield. I always try to stay between 8-10 km away from my target. Whenever I shoot I switch immediately to virtual cockpit to scan for air threats while I'm on auto track. If there is another enemy nearby of my current target I launch another one after 10 to 15 seconds. I direct that missile to next target if I get a kill. The good thing is that you got plenty of missiles, so you can launch pre-emptively.

Great review as always! On the Heli front what are your thoughts on the GE helis on sale? I've been eyeing the Mi-28a, G-Lynx, and Tiger HAP but there's not a lot of comparison info out there. I've spent some time test flying them, but that doesn't give a 1:1 to ingame use.

Go for the G-Lynxe... its incredibly fun. Quick, maneuverable, good loadout (for its tier; has hellfires, aa missles and cannon), alot of countermeasures and has thermals. Also britain 10.0 ground and air is very strong, so ull have a complete lineup.

I just have to be the pedant: It's pronounced 'Roy-valk', just with a slightly stretched 'o' in Roy.

As a south african the V in Rooivalk is also pronounced close to F and an english V, so it would be close to Roy-Falk for english speakers

the balsa wood landing gear, yeah I see that. Also I hate helicopters in War Thunder (mainly the Ka's for the obvious reason), well I just hate high tier CAS, I can deal with mid tier P-47's but the stand off weapons are a pain and these helis are sitting 7-10km away out of range of most weapons and if I poke out I die. I am playing Ground RB, not getting my teeth bashed in by some kid with his mums credit card simulator, I wish Gaijin would increase the spawn costs of CAS with guided weapons, double for helis with guided missiles (triple for KA-50's (but not the 52 (fuck the KA-50))) and quintuple strike drones (yes more than a Nuke) cos drone are BS at the highest order

I prefer the G-Lynx, it flys like a Ferrari and has all the required tools to get the job done. This tempted me but, the death roll put me off , along with sluggish handling

You have to utilize the long distance missiles. I recently played my ka50 and did well because I spawned in the back and when I got a missile warningni have enough time to duck down. You really have to be patient flying this heli I'm assuming

This helicopter is just a better HAD. Its lower BR, gets hellfire and better gun for self defense against planes. And for why you die so often in this heli, you should never hover in place, NEVER NEVER hover below 5km. At all times stay close to cover and only peek to shoot and guide the missle.

I haven't had similar problems in *any* other helicopter. The whole "only peek out to shoot" is one of those things that sounds fine in text, but translating that into gameplay is another issue - you can't just "peek out only to shoot" if you don't know where the targets are. You have to peek out to find the targets before you take a shot, and with missiles this slow you have to stay "out" for quite some time, and you can't maneuver much or else you'll lose your weapons lock. Again though, I've used the same tactics (for footage, and "for fun") without issues in any other heli (yet, anyway lol) ... I think my experience with this one was just cursed or something.

@@TimsVariety I understand that its hard but its a tactic based on map knowledge and knowing certain spots (which means some maps are more viable for helis than other). In current meta one should always avoid staying in LOS from enemy spawn because for whatever reason most people dont move their spaa from there. Maybe one day helis will have some chance avoiding spaa fire but for now IRST for whatever reason is not getting confused by flares. And since IRST wont trigger radar lock warning, the only thing you get is MAW so there is very little time to react. But then again helis and planes hard counter tanks so if SPAA didnt hard counter them in return, it wouldnt be fun at all. You play hels long enough you will learn that they are death traps and your life expectancy in game is about 3 mins Grossly under powered gun physics And restricted to rockets in low spawn point deployments which are practically useless. I drop of a game with hels left if on low sp just to save repair costs.

Because you constantly face VT-1s and ADATS SAMs with Ka-50 and Mi-28As BR prevents that a lot of times. Since 2S6 isn't 10.7 anymore 10.7 - a very popular BR - have just Roland 3s to threat you.

This things ATGMs work how the Hellfires SHOULD. Hellfires auto detonate at 8km even though they can go further. These guarantee 8km but dont self detonate at 8km. Honestly these helis should be around 10.3-10.7 tops. KA-50 still needs to be put at 11.0 once Gaijin gets their head out of their ass. Also just wanted to point out, Gaijin forgot to give the AH-64A Petens the new guided Hydras and the AIM-9Ls. They somehow failed to copy and paste properly.

Hey Tim, another great review :) Would you also consider doing a video on the T129 ATAK in the Italian tree? It seems to be the complete opposite to the Rooivalk, as the maneuverability is great but the weapons and systems are heavily lacking, especially since they removed the RWR upon launch and the US/GER heli's now have better laser guided rockets. Overall I feel it is a pretty regrettable purchase on my part, but I am interested to hear what you think of it.
