Brilliant, Tim! Lots of memories - my first visit to the Isle of Wight was in about 1950 on a Sunday School annual outing. We travelled by train from Lancing to Portsmouth Harbour Station, and then by paddle steamer to Ryde. In fairly recent times, during visits "home" from NZ, I've been across on a car ferry and several times by hovercraft - good to see they're still operating. The island and Portsmouth are fascinating places and I wish I could go again.

Hello Jim, I'm glad this video reminded you of own visits to the Island, the railway system is no longer as extensive as it was in the 50's, but it's still unique. The Hovercraft keep the maintenance engineers busy, they are still the fastest way to get to the Island.
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Best wishes. Tim 🙂.

G'Tim, another great video. I thoroughly enjoyed our Day out on the I O W and your company. Sorry I kept on getting in the way of some of the shots during the day! The icing on the cake for me was the "Flight" back to Southsea on the Hovercraft. Cheers from a very wet Menzies Creek and indeed Victoria. Puf'n-Pete.

Hi Pete, this video is a nice reminder of a thoroughly good day out, travelling by catamaran, steam train and a hovercraft, it doesn't get much better. It was good to catch up after the enforced Covid break. I'm still in Northern Spain where I have been filming both French and Spanish trains, I should upload the first video from this trip somewhen in December. As always, it was great to meet up and hopefully it won't be too long before we meet again. Cheers. Tim.

A beautiful day and a perfect trip for railway and history enthusiasts. And a look behind the scenes, the repair workshop and depot, with information panels about the progress of repairs of locomotives and wagons - the cherry on the cake. Great, I wish for many more videos like this. I wish you good health, good luck and many new journeys with interesting places.👏✌👍

Hi, the Isle of Wight is a living museum, a picture of the UK 30 or 40 years ago, with its charming villages, old time seaside resorts and the kind of entertainment that has mostly passed into history. The railway has a character that perfectly captures the more extensive system that existed in the 60's. I'm away filming this week in a place rarely featured on KZbin, I look forward to sharing the results over the coming months. Cheers. Tim.

Superb video Tim!! You took us on a "journey" , as well as excellent footage of the Haven Street Works. As a young chap I travelled to Shanklin (I think) and scraped coloured sands from the beaches into glass test tubes. Wonderful memories from 1947. Many thanks! Rodney Vancouver Island

Hello Rodney, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. The Isle of Wight still retains a unique atmosphere as a result of it being and Island. Children still make patterns with the coloured sands by pouring it into a test tube to create a layered effect as they add each colour. I'd love to have seen the railways of the island back in 1947, happy days. Cheers. Tim.

The Isle of Wight is stuck in a wonderful 50's/60's time warp, even the new Island Line trains are rebuilt London Underground trains. Sorry to hear you are having to put up with typical British weather, I'm in Northern Spain this week chasing trains and lapping up the sunshine. Cheers. Tim.

@@Timsvideochannel1 Don't be sorry Tim, I like the rain, as long as it doesn't cause flooding. Down south the rains are causing extensive flooding, which is heartbreaking to see, but here where we are, it just makes the foliage green and lush which is lovely for a change. Enjoy your stay in Spain Tim and I hope to see a bit of Spain and their trains in your next video. 🙋🏻♀👍🤗

Hello Hans, I think you'd love the Isle of Wight, the whole place is stuck in a 60's time warp, the seaside resorts, the entertainment, the towns and villages, only the cost of a beer has stayed up to date ☹. Best wishes. 😊🍺Tim.

Tim - did the guard have to repeat his departure time or did the signalman get the message the first time? There’s a bit of a radio black spot in Smallbrook.

@@neilforbes416 Hi Neil! An original joke from the Mühlviertel where I live. You certainly know the calculation 3-5+2=0. But how do you explain that to a student who isn't very good at math? This is how we do it. If 3 people are in the wagon and 5 people get out, what must happen then? The answer is quite simply Neil. 2 people have to get back into the wagon so that nobody is in it anymore 👌. And please don't go down to the basement to laugh. Keep telling it and I promise you, everyone will be dying of laughter. Best regards from Hans and Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇦🇹.

Hello Robert, Portsmouth Harbour is an interesting place, there is always plenty to watch, with two major ports at Portsmouth and Southampton not mention all the craft travelling between the mainland and the Island. "Yes" at one time the rail system was far more extensive. Queen Victoria was a regular visitor to the Island, her holiday home at Osborne was at the centre of the Victorians' love affair with the Island.
