The best bit is at 0:55. See those eyes when he comes to maul my meat!
The safari park now has a KZbin channel have a look --
/ @safariak
While at the zoo today, a tiger bit my hand, or at least my watch. The strap broke. There was a bit of hand scratching too and you can see the marks. They are a lot stronger than kittens.
The tiger was born on June 24th 2009, so the tiger was about 3 months old.
The map location, for the zoo "Safari Lando", is precise. But I don't know how KZbin users can access the map location.
Zoo Website (in Japanese)

A seminar student is interested in the "experience economy" and breaking down "the 4th wall". Very important in my view, especially in Japan where (apart from zoos) there is a tendency to have a very strong 4th wall, and to expect that visitors just watch rather than participate. But Japanese zoos seem to be into breaking down the 4th wall and letting the visitors participate.
I am too old for zoos. But when I can play with a tiger like this, then even I am into zoos. It was fun. Tigers are cats, and cute, and soft bellied but their hands are are bigger and their bite, has potential.
As of September 2022, 13 years from shooting this video, only one of the three tigers shown is still alive and I am not sure which one. Her name is Tsuki. She is healthy and she has been having cubs of her own since 2020.
I don't know how the other two died. Tigers in captivity live to be 20 or so. But perhaps the males fight each other in the safari.
This super zoo is about one hour's drive from Yamaguchi City.

+Denine Mishoe I think I know what happens to this cubs. In six months time the were reintroduced into the safari park where they hang out with their peers until they are old. But perhaps this park kills its phogey tigers? I am not sure why you think so. I have no evidence to support, or refute that suggestion. My guess is that they are fed, protected and given a good life at least until they become medically expensive. A lot of pets fair the same way. They are pets of a sort.
@dmissu2
@dmissu2 8 жыл бұрын
No, and that right there is were humans get it wrong. These are not pets, will never truly be pets. They are WILD ANIMALS and even if a cub is raised in captivity all it's life and even love's its owner, if given the chance that WILD ANIMALS will take their head off - kill them. That is not a pet. My kitty scratches the shit out of my arms when we play, but I don't worry that if I turn my back it would pounce on me and go for a death kill - that is the difference between a pet and a wild animal. There are all kinds of documentation about owners getting killed by their "pets". Even famous people, like the 2 guys that owned all those tigers & lions for years - then one attached him. I say it was justice, but they probably killed the poor cat. Just for doing what comes naturally - fucked up humanity. We don't even put down physo murders & rapists - they get a few years in jail and have the chance to one day have freedom again - that's messed up. I challenge you to really "investigate" this 'safari park' that you so proudly defend. I mean, really go behind the scenes, without the owners & keepers awareness - I think you might be very surprised as to what you find. Start by just doing a history search on google of the facility - see what's in their closets. Or maybe even offer to volunteer there. Just a few days should really tell you all you need to know.

The cubs used for petting exhibits are torn from their mothers shortly after birth, causing emotional pain to both the cubs and the mothers. Imagine what that mother tiger experiences after enduring the long pregnancy and finally giving birth, filled with the instincts to nurture her cubs, and then having them snatched away. The breeders take them away and have people handle them so the cubs will “imprint” on the people instead of doing what is natural and imprinting on their mothers.
@nihonbunka
@nihonbunka 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would seem to result in pain to the mother and cubs. I thought perhaps that the tigers were put with their mothers at night but I don't believe that to be the case since six months later was an event announcing the return of the cubs to the safari park and their mothers. It may be the case that if you leave tiger cubs in the safari park, the male tigers have a tendency to kill the cubs so that the mothers stop lactating and go on heat. The tiger cubs were reintroduced to the safari park and their mothers when they were 8 months old.

In Seattle nearly forty years ago, I worked for several different temporary services. I got sent to a circus that had come to town . I was told I was replacing the previous temp. The circus maintenance guy told me I would be sweeping up around the cages. He said he would have to give me a safety orientation. There were fresh red lines around some of the enclosures. I was told not to cross the red lines. It seemed like an easy job and I said so. The guy replied that it is unless you wander too close to the tiger cage like the last guy and they eat you. The previous temp had ignored the red lines and gotten grabbed by one of the tigers. It had ripped off both his arms while he was still alive and then decapitated him. I made sure to stay well outside the lines while I worked there.

They did scratch a bit but did not break the skin. I think that if they were applied with more force - and the cub had more force. He or she was only playing - then they could easily have broken the skin but the claws are not as thin as those of a domestic kitten so they do not come to quite such a point.

+RockY x They are baby tigers that seemed to enjoy being where they were in this cage. (or at least far more than being in the nature reserve where, I read, peers of their mother are likely to kill them to get their mother to stop lactating, so that they can hump the mother, I think). They lack their mother's attention but the do not get eaten. They gain human attention which, by the looks of this critter in my video, they enjoy to an extent.

Burden of proof? This is KZbin, not a court. These tiger cubs were born in captivity in Japan.There are less than 4000 wild tigers in the world, most in India. These cubs did not have the choice of being born in India but theit quality of life seemed, to me, to be better than non-existance. If you think that the tiger cubs were unhappy then I'd be interested in what it was in their appearance, or in the nature of tigers, that made you think so. There is no burden upon you or anyone to comment but as I say, I'd be interested if you have anything to say.

I guess that the floor was concrete, for ease of cleaning, and for coolness. They seemed to enjoy sleeping on it. It was quite hot. Our dogs often lounge around in the concrete area of our house (the genkan) for similar reasons. Did not appear to want to run around at this time of day. I am not sure where they were kept at other times but six months later they were returned to the large (many acres) safari area of the park which is in part funded by the petting zoo.

@nihonbunka 10 жыл бұрын
As I keep saying, it is not as simple as that. In the world of humans it is good, I believe, for infants to be with their parents. But in the world of tigers, I am told that baby tigers are often eaten by the peers of their mothers, since the peers of their mothers want the mothers to stop; lactating, breast feeding, and come back on heat so that the male peers can have sex. So all this sympathy for the poor orphan baby tigers may be displaced. They are removed from their parental safari for their own good.If they were left there they would have a good chance of being eaten. So no, in my humble opinion, you are anthropomorphising the sitauation. It, the tiger cub should not be with its mother and father and it is not a poor baby. However, also, as I have written before, this sympathy for tiger cubs is not misplaced in so far as it is an expression of sympathy for babies in general and Western human babies in particular. In the Western world (but not in the East Asian world) babies are removed from their mothers and made to sleep on their own. This practice is tremendously traumatic for children and may result in agressive adults. The reason for the separation is however extremely similar. Western human babies are removed from their parental bed so that Western males can have sex. And the result is extremely traumatic, all the more becuuse human babies can and do contemplate their seperation and the counterfactuals ("I could be in bed with mum and dad") far better than tiger cubs (who may not even be aware that they have a mum and dad). So all the bewailing of the situation of these tiger cubs is perhaps a subconscious protest against the far more serious torture of Western babies that takes places on a massive scale. Billions of Wesetern human babies are being made to sleep on their own for the sake of sex.

So that we could look at them and play with them, I presume. The mother lived in the safari park part of the zoo. I am not sure whether the cubs were returned to their mother in the evening but I fear not because much later the zoo organised a sort of "return to the wild (safari park)" event where zoo bred cubs were re-'released,' to the safari. I have heard it said (youtube so, with a pinch of salt) that safari bred cubs can be in danger. The males sometimes kill the cubs, apparently.

These cubs did not seem to want a big play area. The adults are in a large (125 acre) safari park, taking turns at cage duty.

I like your attitude very much! :D Specially with the "5 freedoms". That's the spirit way more humans need. Always makes me happy to see there are people like you out there in this cold world. (i'm ready for my "trip" now. ;)). Just feeling the good energy and spirit.) keep it up !

Yes. I like Casio watches so much that I even bought shares in the company. The shares bombed. Casio does not know how to market itself as an upmarket brand even though its watches have all the features provided by swatch and many more. I suppose the design is often rather iffy.

The tiger was cat sized, but his cub teeth and claws were entirely different proportions.

I have read that male tigers kill infants, perhaps in order that the females come on heat again sooner. I think that they are safer bottle fed than reared in the safari. So in that sense it is a shelter. This zoo's headline animal are the young cats. Please see the homepage of the zoo, in the description.

Cute video. It may be a good idea to remove watch first next time. Luckily the other tigers didn't come forward while the cub was playing with your hand.

Yes. I think I would agree. That is why he or she was so interested in my watch perhaps.

It did hurt a little. The paws and teeth are bigger than those of a domestic cat. I think that if it had been at it in earnest it could have cased serious damage. But it was attacking my watch, fortunately. The only slight problem were the scratches where the tiger had held my hand, which is why I stopped eventually.

Not that I was aware of. And the keepers were close by. There was on clear display a rule saying to not let them bite your hand because it can be problem when they are older. I excused myself by only allowing the tiger to bite my watch. There would have been no warning not to let them bite ones hand if one were not allowed to put one's hand inside the cage.

Yes. Someone is using their phone to take a picture. The majority of people have smart phones nowadays so one does not see flip open phones quite so much. My phone is in my hand - a very small flip open I think. These days I have a 7 inch tablet phone.

I am not sure but there was a zoo keeper there who did not mind. There was a sign saying "Don't let them bite you (because they get used to doing so)." I thought it would be okay to let her bite my watch -- I know.

The cub is after the watch because it's big and metal and the strap I presume is genuine leather. That's what it's after. Not your hand
