He defeated Persian empire ( shia people) and Uzbekistan was under Persians. He defeated Mongols( Mongols were killing Uzbeks all the time ) and established powerful sunni country( if you don’t know what is shia and sunni google it)

Interesting, from what I've read Timur was a villain in arabic culture although the arabs are predominantly sunni as well. I have to admit the islamic history is much more complex than I thought. So from what you mean is the rise of Timur was like the revolt of the Uzbeks against both the mongols and the persians. No wonder your people are so proud of him. I don't know much about the history of islam because being raised as a christian did make me feel resentful towards muslim for a long time (but not anymore). It's a great opportunity for me to learn more about one of my favorite country. I really appreciate it.

You can also check Mughul empire it started from Uzbekistan and founder of Mughul empire was Uzbek His name was Babur and there is a book Baburnoma l guess there is a English version very interesting
