Hozier’s live recording of To Be Alone (in Kilkenny) is absolutely beautiful if you want to react to more of him! Some great vocals there (as in all of his stuff)

He sounds very tired here because he’s been on tour for so long, but I HIGHLY recommend his live performance of Unknown/Nth for Amazon Music. it’s BREATHTAKING

Hozier has had two great bands with him, on this tour and his previous one in 2019. His bassist is also the music director and arranger.

He flips it in the recording too, I think it’s a stylistic choice to help the chorus flow.

He’s Irish our vowels hit different
@TimWelchVocalStudio4 ай бұрын
Actually his vowels choices are more pop music influenced than by his Irish IMHO. In general open vowels from that part of the world are more tall than lateral, he has relatively lateral vowels here.
@goretti21274 ай бұрын
@@TimWelchVocalStudio he’s from Wicklow and I’m from Wexford and we pronounce vowels differently it just comes naturally and while singing songs we Irish can sing one way and change the sound of the vowels by not even trying to it’s just being Irish listen to dermot Kennedy and his vowels are a bit different he’s from Dublin but you can here there accent coming through just by there vowels

Delores O’ Riordan from the Cranberries is a great example of a singer sounding Irish and of course she’s famous for her keening.

He actually sings the same "ee" note as in the falsetto 'neat' on the belted "ee" in coffee directly afterward in the chorus. It's sung so fully that it's easy to miss. I'm sure the falsetto is entirely stylistic as to lend more dynamism and punch to the note the second time round. It's a very Hozier thing to do - as you ponted to the same dynamic in Take Me To Church Definitely wouldn't sound as rich and emotional without the different dynamic. Just found you today, and appreciate your direct approach to analysis. Any chance you could cover Watch Over You by Alter Bridge (billboard acoustic version). I think it would really suit your kind of analysis.

the way he pronounces vowels could also maybe be a product of the fact that he has a very heavy irish accent
