I played along with this, and I thought I did a pretty good job. Then I went and watched a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan playing this live and... yeah. Talk about having things put in perspective.

Can’t thank you enough for this track Tom. I have played with it ever since I found the blues 8 years ago and it helped introduce me to Stevie Ray. This has helped me cope with so many problems whether it be musical burnout, heartbreak, or family struggles. God bless you ❤

I have jammed to this backing track since the day i started playing guitar. Now, 10 years later, im still playing to it. Will never get tired of it!!👍🏻

To people talking about the key, it's in the same as the original, which is Bm. I'm assuming some of the confusion of it being in Cm is that Stevie played in a half step down tuning so that for him it was in Cm. If you're in standard, it's based around a Bm scale
@bornintherain6 жыл бұрын
24 bar blues. Played in standard tuning = E,A,D,G,B,E Top string down. Played in Bm. Bm=8bars, Em=4bars ,Bm=4bars, F#m=2bars, Em=2bars, Bm=1bar, Em=1bar, Bm=1bar, resolve chord progression at F#7=1bar. SRV tuned his guitar down 1/2 step. when you see him play, he is playing in Cm progression to make up for the lower tuning. Easier to bend strings in this lower tuning with heavier gauge strings.

Went down to Tin Pan Alley See what was goin' on Things was too hot down there Couldn't stay very long Hey, hey, hey, hey Alley's the roughest place I've ever been All the peoples down there Lord, they are livin' for their whisky, wine and gin She get up in the mornin' Before the break a day Before she can wash her face and hand You know she really did go away Hey, hey, hey, you tell What kinda place can this here Alley be? Well now, every women I get here Every women I get to know This Alley takes her away from me I heard a pistol shoot Yeah, and it was a .44 Somebody killed a crap shooter 'Cause he didn't shake, rattle and roll Hey, hey, hey, hey What kinda place can a Alley be? the perfect track to work on style. touch and nuance. It is infinitely harder to play slow and make it sound good than fast. Leave lots of space and allow the song to breathe, and when you do play notes, make them count. This will expose sloppy fingering, bad scale notes and a lack of melodic insight. All of those things are learned and can improved through practice. I strongly encourage everyone, from pro down to beginner, to record themselves when playing to backing tracks. You will be surprised to find that you are probably not playing what you think you are. If you really want to improve, hear yourself as others hear you

Play it your own way. SRV played it different every night. Nobody plays the blues the same way twice. Just be you. If you try to sound like any other guitarists but yourself, you will fail. So, be the best you, you can possibly be, and that's the best gift you can give everyone including yourself.
