By far the best backing track I've ever heard. I was getting so into it towards the end then the video just abruptly stopped and I opened my eyes and felt as if I was drifting back down to reality. In other words, great work!

natenate Philp practice soloing over chord changes. Switching between major and minor pentatonic over the 1 and the 4 chord. This approach elevated my playing so much. If you havent already explored this theory i would encourage you to! Cheers bro

Playing my strat with .11s here...Oh my wrist!!!! Can't belive Stevie was all that fast and furious with .13s what a monster!
@G.u746 жыл бұрын
Johnny Boy I will never forget, 23 years ago , i bought my first strat and i thought, what he can do i can too. So i put on a set of 0.13.... Hahahaha my whole tremolo block came out , the strings where so tight i could not even bend th middle of the high e string!!! At that time I was so green and just played guitar for 1 year , acoustic..... But it was fun and I’ll never regret trying to play it like Stevie. Then not yet knowing that it is impossible.... at least for me ....hahahah

@@G.u74 Stevie is my all time hero and always will be. Just wanted to add that he played a hybrid set that was tuned down half a step and bridge as high as it could go. It changes quite a lot as far as play-ability is concerned. I spent my youth with the same setup on all my guitars. Rings like a bell but it does get tough on the joints.

After about 30 minutes of playing over this track, I concur.

it's not about the string thickness, it's about the player.
@mysterytea.4 жыл бұрын
He did played in E Flat tuning I believe so it did drop the tightness of the overall guitar a bit. Genius for tone, thick strings but able to bend em better

practice and feel are your friend. just cause some great dude used a thick string doesn't mean you are going to measure up.
@foxhound57024 жыл бұрын
@@sethknarr4879 yeah that's right, not everyone is comfortable using .13's and don't forget Stevie was high as a kite on drugs most of the time he was performing so he didn't feel the pain from the strings anyway.
@Mr.CliffysWorld3 жыл бұрын
@@foxhound5702 .... Its like body building . Your fingers get stronger the more you play . I am going on 54 years old, June 9th, and I use 12's a lot . depending on the guitar . Over the years you don't realize it because building that kind of strength happens gradually and then one day you find yourself bending a B string up to where the low E string is and then you smile... You smile the smile of those who know they've attained what was needed and now wants to take the next step .

I don't know why I didn't think of backing tracks before. I always use to just play with the actual studio recording which is way less fun. Especially because it's less intimidating not hearing SRV.

backing tracks are invaluable when learning / practicing. i was the same way. didn't even think about backing tracks until i accidentally ran across one. now i have a huge youtube playlist dedicated to backing tracks. it has really helped me on my journey of learning to play lead

Just so you know, your drum fill comes in an 8th note later and throws off the whole grid if you follow the intro countoff. Just something to take note of for future videos. For anyone wanting to play along with the intro, count seven 8th notes instead of six on the second measure in the countoff.

All you wannabes don’t know Stevie at all if you think he actually played a set of actual 13s lmao do some research if you're a true fan!! And on another note incase you don’t know also string size will not effect tone at all on an electric!!! The sound from your amp will not change from string size. On an acoustic it will but on an electric it will not! You might think it does cause you hear the acoustics coming from your electric but if you record it and play it back there will be no change to the sound coming from the amp which is what everyone hears!
