The main reason I prefer the original is because of presence. This feels a lot more imposing, foreboding, almost like you're lucky you can even visit.

it does sound more sinister/foreboding, while the remake track enhances the traditional part, making it seem liek a shrine that people could visit to pray, which does fit the tower and its story too, including ho-oh.

That's not unlike what I thought I first visited this place in the hopes of catching Ho-Oh. It feels like the tower itself is challenging you, too, which is further emphasized by the confusing ledge/teleporting maze you need to traverse to get to the top. You know what lies at the top, you know it isn't going to be easy, but you press on anyway.

I liked how when you reach the roof it is possible to use FLY directly from "inside" a building, apparently they flagged the roof as "outside". Such attention to detail

I'll never forget the Ho-Oh encounter. When I got to the roofs, I was greatly surprised, because I didn't expect a legendary Pokémon to be there. It was such an epic feeling. The old Pokémon games were the best.

I prefer this version of the theme, it feels more intimidating, yet somewhat mysterious at the same time. Really makes you feel that this is a test for you, for simply possessing the Rainbow Wing is not enough to be able to interact with the legendary Pokemon. The HG/SS is good for what it aims to be, focusing more on the traditional and almost religious atmosphere of the tower, but I like this better.

When the previous Tin Tower been burned during the Kanto-Johto Wars. A new Tin Tower is made despite Johto has lose the war of dominance. And yet both sides hope that Ho-oh make its return on that tower.

^ Much of Johto's music (and Nintendo's music for many games other than Pokemon) is based on traditional Japanese music. The region of Johto in Pokemon is based more on traditional Japanese architecture, music, etc than any other region in the franchise.

It's similar to part of the Kimono Girls' theme, but really it's not "from" anything, I think it's just part of a scale used in a lot of traditional east asian music.
