When I was in hospital ( briefly ) as a 10 year old in 1966 , I had just got a transistor radio , and lived to hear River Deep on Radio Scotland ( which was then a pirate radio station) - and they played it about once an hour ! -

Tina has been perfecting this song since she first recorded it in 1966 with Phil Spector.... Celine, when she recorded it, altered the wording slightly, from "like a robin loves to sing" to "like Tina loves to sing" as a tribute to Tina.

When I was a kid in hospital in the summer of 1966 ( aged 10) the studio version of this came on about once an hour on the pirate radio station Radio Scotland ( not the BBC station we have now !) . It gave me an energy boost every time and I have loved it ever since. No 3 in the UK? Credit to us for recognising the talent that was there. Of course the Phil Spector produced studio track is like nothing else.

My favorite performance of hers of this song is at the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. Paul Shaffer was acting as a bandleader. Phil Spector was in the audience. But do listen to the original version of this song where Tina is backed up by an orchestra.

This was her last official Tour back in 2000. She did one more Concert in 2009 which became her last public performance. Tina has been retired since then.

Another song from my favorite live concert of Tina's -- thanks for the reaction! This was one of her early hits back in the '60s when she was still with Ike & Tina Revue. Those forward backing vocals and general sound are part of the signature sound of producer Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound." Tina's said before he asked her to do take after take in the studio because it wasn't gritty enough or loud enough. Her constant motion and energy still amaze me. Celine did a cover of this and replaced a lyric in the second verse with "Just like Tina loves to sing," haha. I'm eagerly awaiting your reaction to "Nutbush City Limits" from this same concert. You just may fall out of your seat, haha.

None of today's artists can top artists like Tina, Dinah Washington, Etta James, Aretha, Neneh Cherry, Phil Spector, Fleetwood Mac, Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and the list goes on and on. I do like a few artists from today though. Bruno Mars, Zayn Malik, Shawn Mendes and Harry Styles are awesome and classy artists.

Tina's original version of this song was produced by Phil Spector, a white man. Sadly, That was a problem for American radio at the time. It was deemed "too black for white stations, too white for black stations". And thus it stalled at #88. What a waste.
