I agree. The story's been told so many times, plus there's a book and movie that covers all of it. Not to mention her own legacy has completely outshone her time with Ike Turner. She gave absolutely no statement when he died, so I can only guess that she agreed beforehand to talk about this. She'd have every right to politely decline to discuss Ike anymore, and no one could fault her for it.

Jon Thomas Tina talks about Ike in nearly every single one of her television interviews. Her career post Ike was more successful but in pop culture lore and in music history her career with Ike is more notorious. They divorced in 1978 yet Tina is still being asked about their marriage. In fact she seems to entertain the discussion most of the time. She has a new book and a musical coming out this year and I guarantee she'll discuss him some more.

I told him I was going to go out to see a friend, he said if you walk out that door, imma knock the shit out of you. Being a survivor of domestic and sexual assault, not by the same person, I really appreciate your comment. It's hard enough living with it everyday and then to have somebody ask you questions to re-traumatize you, trust me it's not easy. But with therapy and medication I'm able to live a somewhat normal life now. PTSD is a real bitch . And I hope Tina has found the same. God bless her.

I always enjoyed their performances. He took Tina in when she was a teen mom working as a nursing aide with nowhere to go. Little Richard wrote the forward to Ike's book and said Ike gave him money to prevent his house from being foreclosed. Ike brought his entire band from St. Louis to Los Angeles. He did good things for Tina like give her a platform to shine. Yes, he should respected her and treated her better. He didn't appreciate her and that was his loss, but the way people demonize him and try to diminish his influence in music is ridiculous when there are revered musicians who have done worse. Most people don't know about Ike's deep rooted issues. The violence he saw as a child inflicted on his father and how he was raped by grown woman at 6 years old. The racism he faced and being screwed over by the industry. Ike was also bipolar but wasn't diagnosed until later in life so drugs obviously made things worse. None of this excuses his mistreatment of Tina but it gives some context to the man.

That’s what people don’t know the difficulty it is to break from a marriage. My mother had difficulty to break from a marriage from an abusive controlling relationship. It’s not as easy as if someone telling you to just walk away. I completely understand Tina has said in her examples of what she went through. It’s very similar of what my mother goes through in her marriage, not as extreme, but there has been a lot of examples of her marriage of being controlled. From my experience of seeing of being in a family of a close-knit family, it’s only been three of us I have known of what it’s like to be controlled by one In the family . It’s been horrible.

The movie gave me the courage to run away from him. At the beginning he was the perfect guy that any girl would wish to have but after two years he turned into a different guy. He was handsome, sweet, loving and had the ability to manipulate my mind until he convinced me that he was going to change. But when a man lays a hand to a woman, he'll keep doing it. We were the perfect couple and all the women used to envy me and every man used to envy him. He were HOT!! in every way. We lasted 8 years and broke up in 2015 but he kept looking for me in any way he could. When I was 17 I saw "What's Love Got To Do With It". As a young member of the LGBTQ community it changed my life. I fell head over heels in love with Tina. Not knowing 30 years later I'll be in the same position she was with Ike. Like her stayed around to try to help him, but I wasn't living anymore the way he was treating me. I got rid of him FINALLY & 5 years later with a whole lot of ups and down yes, but I've never been happier in my whole life & without him! That movie victimized Tina.. Even she said the rape scene & cake scene never happened... Fictionalized. Plus she was being portrayed as a virgin before she slept with Ike (While his wife was in the hospital for shooting herself). when in reality she had a baby with one of Ike's band members
